You sure it's not due to your speaker set-up? Surround sound will split the audio between the front left/right speakers, which will make it harder to hear.

I never had an issue with any of the diaries or Atlas either. Maybe it's an issue unique to your configuration. I believe there's also the option for subtitles if you prefer that.

I never finished the first Bioshock so I started playing it again to prep for the first and see the end. My audio does exactly the same thing as Joph's. Journal's/Radio are quiet rest of noises loud.

It was actually a lot of forum reading just to get the game to launch in Win7 64x with realtek audio. Then the sound did not work at all in game. Had to enable a setting called "Stereo Mix" in my recording setting's for the sound properties. Then adjust the launch variables default.ini. Game was released for XP, so I had tried compatibility mode for both the game.exe and the steam.exe with no love. Fortunately the .ini fix I found did the trick.

I was just happy to get it launched and with sound, I can live with the journal being quiet becuase it's fun going back into Rapture. :)

I found the subtitles option right before bed last night so, better late than never, I suppose.

No funky audio set-ups here; just a pair of off the rack, ten year old $12 computer speakers.

As a brief update, Bioshock is well worth the $5 I paid for it but I have one gripe. The recorded "diaries" (and updates from Atlas, et al) are really quiet and I have to crank up the sound to hear them. The option to adjust the "voices" only seems to affect the plasmid-zombie-thingies and not the diaries. I don't really need more help hearing some woman scream in my face as she attempts to brain me with a pipe but hearing the plot bits without turning up the volume each time would be nice. Especially when said Slicer decides to wait until I'm trying to listen to a recording of a mechanic ******** about frozen pipes before she rushes screaming "WHY WON'T YOU LEAVE ME ALONE?!!?!?" with my volume turned way up.

Been working my way through Oblivion. I had played Morrowind, but for some reason had never picked up Oblivion. I always seem to hate the start to Bethesda's games, but I know that if I push my way through the tutorial level and a quest or two into the story, I'll be hooked.

Today's deals:

Batman: AA GOTY $7.50 (75%)
L4D2 Franchise 75% off: Either game $5, both for $7.50
Far Cry franchise 75% off: Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition $5, Far Cry $2.50
Kings Bounty franchise 80% off, $3-5 per game
Sims 3 franchise 66% off, the main game $13, and all 417 expansions 66% off or a complete pack for $80
Jamestown $5 (50%)
Lost Planet 2 $20 (50%)
Gothic series 75% off. Gothic 4 $12.50, or bundle with everything $9
Atom Zombie Smasher $3 (70%)
Killing Floor $5 (75%) or bundle with DLC $7.50
Grand Theft Auto 4 complete (with dlcs) $10 (75%)
Prototype $15 (50%)

I thought I remembered hearing that L4D2 is primarily co-op/team play with little single player appeal. Is this correct?
Everyone and their dog seems to love Batman AA so maybe I'll break my two day no-buying streak before it's three days. How's Far Cry 2? Worth getting? I only remember the name.

Far Cry 2 is great. It's like Crysis without the nanosuits and the ability to play it on normal-ish systems.

Someone elsewhere said L4D2 was still amusing as a single player and I know some folks I can co-op with so I did L4D2, Far Cry 2 & Batman: AA.

I'm picking up King's Bounty pack. Only 7 dollars, looks worth it.

I bought Terraria yesterday. Fun little game, like the other topic on that game said, Minecraft + Castlevania. A lot harder than Minecraft.

I signed up for my steam account yesterday, never really thought about using it before. When I was in college, all my friends just used it to play counterstrike or some ****. I didn't really think it was for anything else back then. These sales are pretty nice though.

I'm having a weird "shaky camera" issue with Fallout: New Vegas. Any time I look around (I use my laptop's trackpoint) it does so with a noticeable vibration. I can't quite tell if the vibration is in the pointer, or if the in-game textures are twitching. Never had any such problem with F3. It's annoying.

Couldn't find anything about it on Google. I'll tamper with my graphics settings when I get home...hopefully something will fix it.

Quake franchise 75% off, or a complete pack for $7.50
Dead Rising 2 $20 (50%)
Sanctum $3.75 (75%) or 4 pack $10

Folks are saying I should get Audiosurf for the buck-fiddy so I'll probably do that. Maybe Company of Heroes as well; at least the original.

Broke my 2 day no buy streak with a splurge on Sanctum for $3.75. FPS/RTS tower defense sounds fun.

Almost got SF4 but the new AESF4 comes out tomorrow. I would have prolly just tooled around with the single player anyway but my backlog of games is getting pretty ridiculous already.

I bought Company of Heroes and the Opposing Fronts pack. Also Audiosurf which I wasted two hours on last night without realizing it. I'm a global champion on Doris Day's "Girl From Ipanema"! Smiley: laugh

Friday's deals:

Mafia franchise, Mafia $2.50, Mafia 2 $7.50, DLC 75% off
Splinter Cell franchise 66% off, or a pack for the last 4 games + a dlc for $18
Amnesia: The Dark Descent $5 (75%)
The Last Remanent $10 (75%)
Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga $20 (50%)
Dirt 3 $33.50 (33%)
Empire and Napolean Total War with all DLC $10
Fallout 3 GOTY (all dlc) $10
Worms Reloaded $5 or 4 pack for $17
Red Faction Armageddon $33.50 (33%)
Universe Sandbox $5 (50%)
Mass Effect Franchise 66% off - both games $7 each

Not sure anything in there grabs me. Maybe the Total War pack. I liked the first Medieval: TW but didn't care for Medieval: TW II that much so I'm not sure. Never did Fallout 3 so I suppose maybe I'll go with that but for some reason I'm not really enthusiastic about it.

Fallout 3 + DLC is a vertiable boatload of content for $10. I'd highly recommend it.

I'm kind of curious about Amnesia, but just don't think I'd get much mileage out of it. I really have to drag myself to complete true horror games.

It's my opinion only, so take it for what it's worth. Both FO and ME are 2 of my favorite gaming series in recent years. FO is just massively huge, and ME is a story I just had to buy a 360 for. The fact that it was later released on the PC chaps my *** a little bit, but oh well. Like someone else mentioned, FO3 + all the DLC is a serious assload of content for 10 bucks. I'm even thinking about grabbing it because I don't have all of the DLC for the 360.

So the fact that ME2 was released on PS3 doesn't bother you at all?

Picked up ME 1 & 2, FO3 and Amnesia. People elsewhere were recommending it with one guy saying "The only reason not to buy this for $5 is if you really don't own $5. In which case, PM me and I'll gift it to you because you should play this game."

As it turns out, I do have five bucks but that was a heck of an endorsement.

Edit: I've played FO 1 & 2. I'll admit that the first person thing gave me pause and the worry that it was trading in some of its charm for slickness.

Edit II: I suppose I should be thankful that game-makers' obsession with consoles has retarded technical development since it means that my "pretty new but hardly top of the line" system still exceeds the recommended specs for these games.
