We officially have about 8 months to wait for the launch of The Secret World. Starting next week on August 26, you can register to join upcoming betas through an interactive social media campaign that will be made available on http://www.thesecretworld.com/.

You can watch the fourth CGI trailer here: http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=27364. I'm a big fan of their CGI series.

Haven't they been taking registration for the beta all along? I could have sworn that they said that back when I registered (a year ago?).

Remains to be seen whether I'll regain my interest in MMORPG's, but so far I've liked the game's direction.

I picked up on this game back when it was first announced (the first CGI trailer), and then kind of forgot about it. But now I'm excited again, especially with WoW becoming pretty un-fun recently.

I don't know why, but that thing they were fighting in that trailer made me think of that scene from the Twelve Kingdoms where Taiki forms his contract with Gouran... but I'm guessing that thing doesn't have a cute puppy form, and it's got big tentacles instead of razor-claws.

Here's the scene I'm talking about, but it's not as exciting to an English speaker when I could only find it with Portuguese subtitles on Youtube:

This game sounds pretty interesting. The one movie with the guy in the bar made me think of Constantine right away. But playing in a Lovecraftian, Neil Giaman, Sandmanny sort of MMO could be a nice change of pace.

I haven't read any of those books lately but I was a big fan at earlier points in my life.

That was the initial draw for me. The monster designs have looked great, and the environments seemed pretty unique (compared to most MMORPGs) and inspired. I'd expect the same for the storyline, too. The hints that they've done with their viral marketing have suggested that there'll be a lot of mysterious content...I'd hope that playing the game makes you feel like you're really exploring and uncovering secrets.

Not so sure about the combat though, which has looked pretty uninspiring from what I've seen.

Funcom has posted a series of blog entries looking back at Gamescom and they provided some more details on this new beta process.

We do however encourage everyone to sign up again on August 26th. This will give you the opportunity to join the Secret War experience and collect some awesome rewards."

So your old registration is still valid, but it looks like you should register again on Friday if the game rekindles your interest in MMOs.

Hmm...just might do that. Thanks for the info.
