Ok, now I understand the "Smithing is OP" sentiment. Went from a 20 damage sword to a 42 damage sword, and 30 armor chest to 63 armor chest. Hells to the yes. And this isn't even dragonbone yet. Hit 85 smithing by blowing through 10,000 gold (most of which was actually spent on the glass stuff for myself and Lydia). Decided to play around some more before leveling up any further (now at level 23).
Having two companions (Lydia and my dog, Vigilence) is fun, though I've mistaken Vigilence for a wolf too many times. He tends to get angry when you stab him... Lydia works fine so far as a companion. The AI leaves something to be desired, but they both take and dish out really good damage thus far.
I kinda suck at enchanting. I'm not sure how the game determines what stats get put on an item. For example, I disenchanted an amulet with 15% frost resistance on it; when I tried to apply the enchantment to a ring, I got 3% frost resistance on it before I even selected what soul gem to use (ended up using a common one). When I took some of the perks in the enchanting tree, notably the +40% for 2/5 of the first tier, I still only got a 4% result. Could someone give me the simple explanation for why my enchantments seem so lacking? Also, is there an "easy" or cheap way to level enchanting? I get about one skill point every time I enchant an item, but it uses an item and a filled soul gem to work. That means going out and slaughtering enemies for their souls; a tedious process as a mostly non-magic character (and enchanting a weapon to have soul trap means needing to recharge it constantly).
