Atari and Wizards of the coast announced today that the old classic Baldur's Gate is being remade in an "enhanced edition" with a "re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements"

So yeah. Having never played the originals, this is definitely something I'm going to be picking up.

I'd give it some time after release before picking it up. The company doing it, Beamdog, has a ****** track record, from what I've heard. They've also announced they aren't releasing it on Steam, which makes it very likely they'll release it on their own digital distribution service (also called Beamdog).

Interestingly enough, it looks likely that Atari will be releasing BG2 (and maybe BG1 as well, not sure) in a Complete Edition to Steam. Both games are also available on Good Old Games.

As for BGEE, I'm finding it hard to get excited. BG1 and 2, and their expansions, were incredible. Any sort of remake that isn't purely cosmetic gives me pause. The enhanced edition is supposedly adding "new content", with no description of what that will be, and in a very odd choice, not updating the graphics at all (possibly the only change I'd actually want them to make). I'm hopeful it'll turn out well, but not optimistic.

If this ends up being good, I will be all over this.

I'll be all over it regardless, but I'll be exceptionally pissed if they botch a classic.
