Symphonia is not worth purchasing a new/used PS3. Not by a long shot.
If you're going to bother, find a dirt cheap gamecube and a used copy from gamestop and just play it that way.
It was a decent game, but it's not really super innovative. It becomes incredibly predictable at around the halfway point, which is also where the characters sort of stop developing. And I didn't find the characters all that interesting. Some had potential, but it just doesn't get used enough. And, unfortunately, looking at the character line-up now, they're are party characters I don't even remember anything about.
Basically, the first half of the game is fun (though sometimes absurdly difficult for no reason). The second half of the game isn't.
