Because EVE general was only getting a post every six months or so, so it was one of the forums to get axed. They axed most of the forums they had, and only maintain forums for about a dozen games now, if that.
So make a thread in General or OoT asking if anyone plays EVE im sure a few players dabble, and If they do they probably circulate this or OoT. I spend more time here then In OoT/WoW/Asylum then any of the other boards really.
There are a few people who play, a couple of which may only dabble. I've been playing but this week a big "project" at the office has taken away much of my free time. Hopefully I'll be free of those shackles by the end of next week.
Rather than going to the main site, try the reddit subforum.

I believe a few of us questioned that back when they merged most of the forums here. As I recall the last post made in the Warhammer forum at that time was over a year ago as well.
I used to play EVE. I personally don't have any time for MMOs right now, so I don't bother subbing. Only F2P for me right now. One day, I will be back though.

This is the largest ever fight with ships of this size. Years of man hours were lost in this battle (Titans take months to produce.). Some of these ships have been waiting for this since their creation in 2005.
For comparison the big fight last year had 3 Titans die and fittingly this was on its anniversary. http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/01/28/eve-online-battle-asakai/ (last years big brawl)
Insane fight. All because someone forgot to pay a bill.

some nice screenshots of the big fight. Eve is Real, and I wasn't there. (I tried but I died on at gate camp a couple jumps out)
(and yes I necrod this thread.)
Market data for the first half of the day show mineral prices jumping by up to 20% in some case...everything in this game just got a lot more expensive. Basic building unit (Tritanium) has gone up from 4.24 avg to 5.05 avg and rising....yeehaw.

I played EVE for about 3 months. I liked it, but I didn't. I loved the open space. I even practiced calculating and making jumps to land me where I wanted and when I wanted. I lost two ships but never got podded. I joined a guild-thing and even had a practice session with them. But it was almost TOO much. I have to feel some success and some progression in MMO's and it seemed like for me to get these things out of this game, I'd have to put more into it than I wanted.
Also, and more importantly, I was playing EQ at the time with my hubby. He had first dibs on my gaming time.
Maybe I should try again. LotRO is getting awfully dull.
With EVE, there's definitely progression, but you might not have been in an environment to experience it, which is important. It's usually best for new players to pick one area to start specializing into, so you can get a footing in the game and learn the systems. From there, there's a TON of progression (new ship types, new weapon types, harder and higher-risk content, low-sec, null-sec, wormholes, etc.) And you can specialize into quite a few roles, particularly with support options.
But when you're still trying to train everything, it feels like it moves at a glacial pace. Because you're not really getting anything to a workable level.
But if you're doing dedicated training along a career path, then you definitely get a sense of progression (particularly from flying bigger ships).

EvE is very progressive. The problem is the amount of time you invest in the game doesn't dictate progression so much as improve your personal skill at manipulating the game. Skillpoints train at the same speed whether you are online or offline.
Basic progression for getting into an Amarr Dreadnaught for example would be Frigates > Destroyers> Cruisers> Battlecruisers> Battleships > Dread. In addition to that line of progression each ship class has different item tiers. Small Guns> Medium Guns> Large Guns> Capital Guns. This applies for mostly all modules and drones in the game.
Additionally Pirate Factions combine 2 races for example the new Sisters of Eve ships (designed for covert ops and exploration) require me to have both Amarr and Gallente hulls skills. So to fly the Cruiser "Stratios" I would need to have Amarr and Gallente trained, there are I believe now 7 Pirate Factions with various combinations of Racial Hull progressions. So basically your ship progression could be something like this:
In addition to just hull and module progression you also have career path progressions.
PVE Missions lvl 1-5 > Complex Missions* > 0.0 Deadspace Complexes*> Incursions *Complex as in site not confusing/hard, all though some can be difficult if you are alone.
PVP Faction Warfare/P2P War Declarations > Piracy >Sov Bloc Warfare
S&I Station Production> POS Production> 0.0 POS Production Highsec Mining > Lowsec mining>0.0 Mining
Exploration Scanable Sites> Probable Sites> Wormholes Class 1-6
The best part is that no matter what you really choose to do the progression is adequate per region, for example you can fly cruisers as a low sec pirate and live comfortably off Income you make in lowsec PVE/Exploration/Production. As far as day to day progression its entirely on you and what your expectations are, and you can eventually (after like 15 years) become proficient in every single skill in the game.
For myself I have 3 accounts. I have my PVP account which can fly all subcapital class ships in the game across every single faction. I have my Capital Pilot who is skilled to fly Combat/Support and Industrial Capital Ships, and I have my ISK maker/Scout who specializes in Exploration and Covert Ops.
This is a typical day for me:
Explore for ISK/Scout for enemies and targets on my third Move product to or from my station to or from a market hub on my second PVP on my main
Additionally I have set my 2nd and 3rd in such a way that if I find a nice target on my 3rd I can have my 2nd "jump" my 1st to that system to kill it...then go back to what I was doing. The best part is that most of these skills trained when I was away from the game....perhaps even better is that I can make enough money in a month to fund all three of my accounts using ISK to buy PLEX so essentially I play for "free". (although I keep my main on a recurring pay pal in case I for whatever reason don't make enough or PLEX is really high)
As well as engage in piracy with my friends whenever we feel like it.
You really need friends to play the game...space is a big empty lonely place without people to talk to.
There are lots of good starter Corps and Alliances like EVEUNI (probably the best for all around stuff) RvB (introduction to PVP) and Brave Newbies (like EVEUNI and RvB rolled into one and based in 0.0) The new player tutorial is much improved since the first time I did it as well, but it is still rather overbearing in the sense that CCP kinda just takes your money and throws you into an ocean...they tell you how to get out of it...but not which direction to go and because of that this is probably the best MMO on the market in terms of progression and overall flexible enjoyment, at least imo, have played FFXI, WOW, LOTR, SWTOR, Aion, Rift so Ive been around and not just making a fanboy statement. I think it is because you make your own story, you aren't tied to a script, or a set fixed line, you can really do anything you want at anytime.
To put into perspective the "write your own story" The guy who missed paying the sov payment that sparked this massive fight is also responsible for the probable price jump on <pretty much everything> of some 20% by mid month. He is also responsible for putting EVE as the number 2 most watched game on Twitch, which resulted in thousands of new accounts being made yesterday. Is he a hero or villain? Then again if no one came to claim sov in the system then no one would even know he made a mistake.

RvB is great. I was in Blue Republic for a while when playing. They're super helpful and quite generous. Essentially, new players have a nearly endless supply of ships to just fly around and fight in and loose and start over, so they can get better. Plus, they'll help you get the skillbooks you need, recommend a training path that expedites your pathway to being competitive, etc.
Frigates are dirt cheap, so it's not an issue. And in general, no one is flying something larger than a cruiser (and those pilots tend to ignore frigates unless engaged first, just because everyone's looking for a good time). Unless you're in a fleet, of course, in which case you were heading into battle anyway (so why are you complaining?)
And there's a super-strict no-podding rule, so you're only at risk from other players (which IS still a risk, but it's always a risk in EVE).
Add in some themed, T1 frigate-only weekends, and it's a really fun corp for new players.
Definitely recommend it for anyone interested in getting into PVP.

I played Eve for maybe a month on 2 seperate free trials and i couldnt even imagine or fathom what just happened in that video. Thats some crazy sh*t. I kinda wish I had played EVE from the begining as outer space really intrigues me, but i feel the learning curve is way to steep for me :) guess ive been babied by EQ and WoW.
This is the first few minutes of the engagement. Battle is sped back up and because of the effects of Tidi you can see the battle kinda unfold in more real time. So when you watch a stream at 2fps its not because of lag, its just the system going into a slow time so every action taken is accounted for. Makes the videos really really awesome to watch imo. I wouldn't enjoy being in it for very long though.
Why can I not make youtube link here?

Next time just use the video code after the "watch?v=" part of the URL in the YouTube button. And don't use any time or resolution codes as the YouTube button isn't set up to recognize them.
