I honestly don't remember, but the current three don't so that theory goes out the window.

I believe they have cards for all three games but just reveal them for the winner right now. Universe Sandbox had its cards go live once it won.

Oh, and Universe Sandbox winning that vote was ***. That's not even a real game.

But, to be fair, I can't even remember what the other two were. And there's a program to help you budget on there right now. So.

As for the current options, I voted Orcs May Die. I've always had something of an interest in it, but never actually got it. Dunno if I will now, but the other two don't appeal to me.

The budget software is a flash sale, not the community vote option. But ya, pretty stupid thing to have up in the flash sale slot.

They're clearly trying to promote the fact that the platform is technically not just games anymore. But c'mon. It's the saddest attempt at promotion I've ever seen.

It's also hilariously out of place. You want to remind your users to budget? In the middle of your summer sale?

Well, budgeting doesn't necessarily mean cutting back on spending, just allocating that spending for a specific purpose, etc. They want you to budget hundred of dollars to your gaming allowance.

Sure, but considering how psychologically effective the structure of the sale is in specifically breaking budgeting perspectives on users, it's still odd. The structure of the sale, between different sale types, different durations, and one-day structure of each deal, drives people to stress and bargain with themselves over a purchase.

I mean, Steam makes more money off of you buying a daily deal than buying a flash sale. But offering the game as both helps drive purchases. If you didn't grab it on the daily deal, and the flash sale deal is slightly better, it creates the sense of this being your last chance. So even if that sale isn't the best deal, your disproportionately more likely to buy it.

Likewise, if they offer it as a flash sale, and then later as a daily deal, you're more likely to feel like you "missed" the original sale and this is the best you can do.

But the effectiveness of both those strategies is forcing you to think emotionally, not rationally. And my rational brain tells me that every dollar I spend now is a dollar I can't put into savings for a gaming rig. But my emotional brain sees something pretty at 75% off.

Yes, that's the definition of budgeting, but the average person doesn't budget unless they are trying to cut back on spending. For a business or a government, budgeting is a way of hiding money in innocuous categories so that it can be there later for emergencies (business) or patronage/graft/corruption (government).

I agree with this, and think it was very well written. I've stopped using double spaces between sentences, after using it for over twenty years, because I recently read a piece that explained it was not the proper style to use and my left brain would no longer allow it. My left brain and my right brain have been at war ever since.

And Zam, in an apparent effort at saving space on their servers, will not allow more than one space. There are ten spaces between this sentence and the last.

EDIT: Oh. I made a pun.

Kind of an odd tangent, but I still press the space bar twice after each sentence. It's a habit that won't be going away any time soon. But most forums remove extra spaces, leaving the single space even after a sentence.

If we had a separate forum for odd tangents, I would reign over all of my subjects there with an odd fist.

I don't know why, I'm just odd that way.

I do, too. And I doubt that will ever change. Nor do I intend to put much effort into trying. Nearly everything I do with a keyboard is muscle memory at this point. Why bother? The extra space isn't hurting anyone (I don't work in printing or journalism), and it may or may not make things more legible.

Incredipede and.. umm... something else. But Incredipede should have won.

Universe Sandbox isn't like budgeting software. Rather, it's a simulator that's probably nifty if you're very much into astronomy and good for about three minutes of entertainment otherwise. As in, people voted for it assuming it'd be good times but it's largely not.

Well that's disappointing. Because it looked kind of cool. Not cool enough for me to go for it, but cool enough to be noteworthy.

[EDIT]

Just to add some clarity, I'm not really all that big into sim games. I am into astronomy, which is why it looked interesting.

You'll be glad to know then that with Universal Sandbox you can play pool with entire star systems using black holes as the pockets.

Nothing again for me today. At this rate, between the sales I don't want and every game getting cards, I'm actually going to leave this sale with more money than I started. I began with $30, bought one 80¢ game, the BSI Summer Getaway wallpaper and some cards to complete a couple badges and currently have $36.

Fallout NV: Ultimate Ed. is $5 which is the cheapest it has ever been.

Doom 3: BFG is $5 on a flash sale which is the cheapest it has gone.

I've seen a lot of positive buzz for it, but never looked too closely.

I voted for it, mostly because I own the other two.

I remember when my daughter was very young and we were trying anything and everything to get her to interact. I found the God Mode cheat for Doom (Immortal? Invulnerable? DNR) and sat with her to get her to play. It didn't take long to realize all she wanted to do was shoot the 55 gallon drums and watch them explode. She laughed so hard at that. Good memories.

10/10 would play it again.
