Has anyone been paying attention to this? I feel like it's mostly been flying under the radar aside from a Nintendo Direct segment on it a few weeks back. This is an upcoming 3DS JRPG by Squeenix that is a "spiritual successor to FF: The 4 Heroes of Light". It's actually out in Europe already I think, but it doesn't release here until February. However, there is a demo available on the 3DS eshop which is a separate story from the main game. It teaches you the basics of the game (including the use of Streetpass to get villagers to help build a town, which has in-game benefits) and has 7 of the 24 jobs in the main game available for you to play. I've been playing the demo this weekend and really enjoying it. It's a fun job system similar to some previous FF titles. The cool thing is that you can equip abilities from other jobs that the character has leveled up in addition to their current class abilities, so it allows for a lot of variation. The main combat point is the ability to "Default" or "Brave". These deal with a combat resource, BP, that is used to take actions. Defaulting grants you extra BP (and puts you into a defensive stance for the turn), which can then be used for certain abilities or to "Brave", which lets you take a 2nd action in a turn.

I've been having fun with it, though none of my friends have tried it so the streetpassing feature has been slow going for me (streetpasses give you more villagers which speeds up the building of the town buildings). I'll most likely get it when it comes out, a JRPG on the 3DS is an enticing prospect for me as well.

Anyone else gotten to play the demo (or the full game for you European / Australian folks) / looking forward to the release? I also forgot to mention there's another feature in the game for friends - the ability to send and receive each others' characters as summons in battle. I haven't gotten to test this yet, but it seems like it could be cool. In battle there is an option to send or receive a character. I believe this allows you to summon a friend's character into battle to fight alongside your own. Could be kinda cool.

I downloaded the demo when I was checking to see if the damn bank thing was available and haven't touched it. I'm highly wary of Square games.

It sounds quasi interesting though. Smiley: popcorn

I've heard good things about the game, but as I don't own a 3DS, I really haven't been paying much attention to it.

In the Demo at least, Ninjas seem pretty powerful (almost Overpowered). Dual Kunai, 4-5 hits per weapon, plus Multitask. A full 4x Brave attack sequence with a Ninja ends up hitting like... 32-80 times in a single turn. Could with a few other skills like the increased attack power with the higher brave, and the attack boosting songs from a mage with subskills from the Performer (Bard) class. My Ninjas would easily outpace Knights or Valkyries (Dragoons).

Knowing when to Brave and when to Default is a huge part of the game. You can go all out with 4x Brave and annihilate your enemy right away, but if you ***** up, you are dead in the water for 4 turns. But if your enemy Braves a few times in a single turn you can boost a couple braves and still be ahead.

I have the collector's edition on preorder from Amazon.

There seems to be a niche following with the game. I remember hearing about it more than a year ago when it was first rumored to be coming to the US and there was a lot of "Please please please" going around. I've barely touched the demo, but can see how it's being related to the old school FF games. I'll be picking it up at launch. Although since my 3DS never leaves the house, I'm a bit shy on streetpasses. Apparently Nintendo has setup streetpass hotspots that store people's streetpass info, basically acting as if those people are still there. They seem to be pretty common at places like McDonalds, Home Depot, Starbucks, Resturants, etc... Here's the locator if your 3DS is anti-social like mine. http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/nintendozone

It was discussed in the Console Deals thread here:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=22&mid=137010061150845376&h=50&p=2#85

You can setup your own streetpass hotspot at home with a little work. Giving yourself a steady stream of streetpasses.

Edit:
I have completed the Demo and have all 7 bonuses unlocked. Still haven't 100% mastered all the jobs yet, but right now there is no real benefit for me to do it.

I can't decide if I want to digital download or physical copy.

As for the demo, I've been taking my time but still having fun. Would love some friends though to test out that feature. Can't figure out how to register them though, as it doesn't seem to be taking from my regular friends list. Smiley: frown

Until I can attach games to my account, rather than my device, I won't be buying much as a digitial download. Maybe cheap old NES-GBA games, but not anything I'll be paying too much for.

I could have answered the question on my own if I'd have just turned on my 3ds and played the game for like ten seconds, but I don't want to so I'll just ask the stupid question anyway: The fights turn-based?

Yes, though you input all of your team's orders at once. Because of the Default/Brave system, it can matter when you do what, and enemies also act under the same system. I also don't know how order is determined, so if someone else has figured that out please feel free to chime in.

Pretty sure stats like agi determine order. My dual Kunai wielding ninjas always go first.

That would make sense. Do characters gain permanent stats based on their class? I started one character as a ninja then moved him to red mage, and even as red mage he continued to always go first.

Not sure about that. It would take a bit of stat checks and new games to test. Did you keep the same weapon as a red Mage? The Kunai has a huge agi boost.

I hope the main game has an option to auto optimize equipment on job change

No, I switched to a sword (I think broadsword?) and shield.

I think that the new "Nintendo ID" system does that. Now I need to log in whenever I use the store. Also I hooked it up to my club nintendo.

Of course this is Nintendo so they will find a way to take all the digital benefits out of the system.

As of right now I believe the only thing it does is to allow you to share your wallet across systems.

I think it also mentioned linking the licenses from the system to your account. Then linking the console to your account. It said you can only have one 3ds linked. But I wonder if it will let you transfer like the wii and wiiu can?

Yes, there is a system transfer feature for the 3DS. I had a friend use it just last week to transfer all of his purchases, save data, even streetpasses from his old system to a new one. That being said, I think you're boned if your current system is lost or broken.

Well you can currently do a system transfer. The trouble is if say, you dropped your device in a vat of hydrochloric acid you can't really do the transfer in the standard way since it requires both systems to be working.

HOWEVER, I know it's technologically possible for them to transfer your licenses to another device (a friend of mine badgered them into letting him move a digital download off his wife's 3DS once he got his own device)

That said, I'm sure it would be a crap shoot/nightmare/headache. My goal is to NOT switch devices or drop my 3DS into a vat of acid. Hopefully that works out.

This comes out today in NA finally! I really enjoyed the demo, so I've been looking forward to this. Anyone else planning on getting it and want to register as friends? I'm interested in trying out the friend summoning thing.
