Twitch Plays PokemonFollow

So this is a thing. A bot is rigged up to relay input commands from the Twitch chat to the game, Pokemon. There are ~30k viewers at the moment. I don't know what percentage of them are putting commands into the chat but I've been watching on and off for a little while, and it's somewhat mesmerizing. Apparently they've managed to clear three gyms so far. Oh, and there's about a 20-second chat delay. Of course, there are a bunch of @#%^s constantly spamming "start" so a lot of time is spent in menus and the Pokedex.

At times, it seems like the owner might be taking manual control, but I'm not sure.

I saw that yesterday. It took them over an hour to teach a pokemon cut.

I saw them trying to use it on a bush. When they finally got the ability to fire off, he was turned in the wrong direction. Smiley: lol

They just made it to Lavender Town after several hours in the Flash-less cave. And promptly walked out of it again. This is great, hahaha Smiley: lol

They were in that cave all night. They kept using Dig and exiting, and having to re-enter. Eventually they were able to put the Pokemon with Dig into storage.

I wonder how much money this dude is making. Maintaining 25k+ concurrent viewers for a super long time, and they're at 45k viewers now.

The meta commentary and reddit images are what really makes this amazing. You could practically hear the screams and cheers when Erika was defeated at just a bit over 4 days in Smiley: laugh

They were up to >50k viewers last night before Erika went down. Took them 3 hours just to get the bush cut down to go face her. I continue to watch like it's a train wreck... in super slow motion. Even now it's at 40k viewers. Truly absurd and hilarious.

If you want to remove the commands from the chatbox, you can follow the instructions here: http://www.reddit.com/r/twitchplayspokemon/comments/1y2if6/remove_commands_from_chat_even_more_improved/

Makes it a little more readable.

Yeah well, it wouldn't have happened if they hadn't deposited S.S. TICKET, allowing HELIX FOSSIL to run rampant. Smiley: crymore

The stream owner mentioned that he might use a cheat to disable the step counter if it goes too badly too many times.

Democracy mode seems to be working as intended. Less fun, but certainly more productive.

Logged in today just in time to see the team get ROFLstomped by Sabrina; they made it to her with only Abba Jesus and Cabbage still alive. Kadabra 2-shot Abba Jesus with double crits, and one-shot Cabbage. And it took them a few hours to navigate the warp maze to get to her in the first place. Time to grind? Smiley: laugh

I KNEW this trainer dialogue would get some mention! Smiley: lol
