Wildstar is in open beta until the 18th for those who want to try it. I wasn't planning on buying it but I was curious and from what I saw so far It's not gonna change my mind.

I find the combat to be really fun, and I like the limited skill sets. Questing is meh, and the story doesn't grab me. From what I've seen of the dungeons, they're pretty challenging, which I love for low-man content. I'm on the fence. I've been jonesing for a MMO recently, and have been considering reactivating WoW for the umpteenth time. Hopefully I can get that out of my system by playing through th ebeta. Smiley: lol

Yeah, the beta was thoroughly disappointing when I played. Combat was very fun, but everything else was severely lacking. And the everything else is usually what I care about first and foremost in a MMO.

Dunno if the path system gets better later, because I quit playing really quickly.

FPS issues are really getting to me. 15 FPS is unacceptable. I'm sure it's just an optimization thing, as I'm only getting about a 5 FPS boost from dropping down to Very Low. It's not like I'm on terribly outdated hardware, either. Maybe my CPU needs upgrading but it's not like it's topping out or anything. I've tried various fixes that people say have worked for them, and nothing has worked for me as of yet.

I downloaded and played for about 1/2 hour. I think my computer is just getting too old for the newer games. Movement was jerky and laggy. It started getting motion sickness (maybe I'm just getting too old for these newer games...Smiley: frown).

Despite the lag I was able to find my way to killing a couple bad thingies and getting some meds for a sick pregnant woman.

I might try again when the crowds thin out.

Game definitely suffers from optimization issues, but beta is beta. It's not too bad on my computer, but performance doesn't change when I go from ultra to low.

The combat thing was fun for a couple of hours, but once you had to do 2+ cycles just to kill one enemy, it got boring. Time to kill increases tenfold very fast. The telegraphs, while cute, also make too much clutter on my screen when coupled with the over-the-top spell effects. It's a total mess in PvP.

I liked the story (Exiles), but I found myself skipping through the conversations. The Path missions are pretty fun, although some more nonsensical than others. I dislike how you can't unlock them except by stumbling into the area that unlocks the corresponding mission, though. Ran around all over the starting area to find a missing mission. I don't have enough spare time in my life for a game to stall me at level 6.

Still need to try the Stalker and Warrior, but so far none of the classes have caught my interest. I kinda-sorta like the Medic and Engineer, but the Medic's healing spells look ******* ridiculous, and the Engineer's exo suit is a cooldown (boo!). Plus, I'm not entirely sure I'm ready to pick up the tanking role just yet. I liked the robots, though...

I had no FPS issues when I played the last open beta. Hmmm.

Maybe I will download it again...

With the Open Beta, are we gonna see WildStarSource.com come back online? I just went there to check out their coverage and it is not responding.

Has it been taken down because WSHead.com is about to open?

I don't remember FPS issues previously, but I'm getting < 20 FPS out in the world, regardless of video settings (I get maybe a 5 FPS swing between Ultra Low and Ultra High). I've tried beta drivers, old drivers, forcing DX9 mode, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. I know my CPU is not the best (Phenom II x4 955), but I mean, it's in the "recommended" settings, so you'd expect that I'd at least be above 40 FPS on at least Medium, when combined with a 7970 and plenty of RAM. From what I've read, it seems that more people with AMD chips/cards are having issues than those with Intel/Nvidia, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it will improve with optimization and driver releases, but it's still kind of a bummer.
