Wow, that's a bad hunter. I was in a pug where we had 2 hunters who didn't use steady shot at all, but you have discovered a new kind of bad!

#2403 Jun 03 2010 at 7:05 PM Rating: Good
I have dated a truly bad hunter in the past.

Luckily his main was an Elemental shaman in TBC, so he could just spam one button without failing too much.

I have dated more good than bad hunters, though, I think.

No point even bothering with a hunter who's just AFKing, gkick if it's a guildie, /ignore if it's a PuG.

Okay, I don't get it anymore. Really, it makes no sense.

Was in ICC25 (PUG) a moment ago and did 8,000 DPS on Saurfang, which is less than what I should (according to some stats posted earlier). Just timed everything to make sure Rip and Rake never fell off (and also making sure not to clip them) while keeping Savage Roar up the entire time. I used Tiger's Fury when low on energy, Shred on OOC procs (unless to keep Rip/SR up), Berserk twice.

I was 4th on the DPS meter, being trumped by two Warlocks and a Death Knight. I was 3rd on the threat meter, though, just below the two tanks. Not that I could've increased my DPS (without ultimately messing up my "rotation"), but even if I could, how would I do it? Anymore DPS and I'd pull aggro from the tanks.

The difficulty of the class is both intriguing and a pain in the **** sometimes.

And I'm just bitter because a scrub Druid won my Marrow ring (and then immediately tried to sell it), a scrub Hunter won my leather bracers (and then ignored my attempts to buy it) and the Death Knight tank won the Mark on a re-roll (and then immediately tried to sell it).

My loot luck is getting on my nerves here.

It comes down to the tanks. I've cracked 13k DPS on that fight once. Occaisionally, i'll need a salve or vigilance etc. but usually it isn't too much of an issue (just when tanks RNG is bad and my RNG is good). It is very rare for me to have to stop DPS unless the tank is ungeared. Mind you our hunters are pretty good with MD's. Our rogue on the other hand takes great delight in trying to kill me by Tricksing me continually :)

I've been contemplating going Boomkin. It's pretty funny in heroics and such.

Still, that means farming some ~200 emblems again, just to get where I am now with my Feral gear.

While it's probably not going to send your dps into the realm of 5 digits, the fact that you're using Thunderstrike instead of Shadowstrike probably isn't helping either.

Also, DMC:G or Banner would be much better than Mirror. NES too, crappy as it is.

Yeah, I thought about getting the Banner, but some 20 runs and I haven't seen it drop once. With my loot luck, the moment it drops, everyone will roll on it and I'll roll 1.

I'm using Thunderstrike simply because it has more FAP (lol) than any other weapon I have available. Hoping we'll soon down Blood-Prince Council so I can get my polearm. That'll give me some ArP and hit rating, allowing me to switch out my helmet for T10 which has more crit and ArP. Should help with the DPS a little.

The reason I don't have Shadowstrike is because a brilliant RL in a PUG decided to give it to a Hunter. I managed to convince him to lend it to me so I could at least get the Thunderstrike (this was back when I was tanking).

Getting my ring upgraded soon means another 20 ArP and a small DPS increase. I'm just angry I lost the leather bracers to some nutjob Hunter. Armor priority apparently wasn't a concept the RL had heard of before. Figures.

Also, as for my DPS, I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong. I've had a bad tendency to clip Rake and Rip, refreshing at 1s instead of 0s. But this time on Saurfang, I did everything by the books, keeping Rake and Rip up, without Savage Roar dropping. I did make a *****-up around the beginning because our Prot Paladin kept using Consecration and I had to tell him to stop, but Rip wasn't down more than 2-3 GCD before I got it up again and Recount didn't show much of a DPS drop.

Still, if I'm at 8k DPS and some spreadsheet tells me I should be at 8k without the 20% buff, it seems like I'm doing something wrong. 20% of 8k is a decent chunk (1600 DPS).

Edit: One explanation might be my timing of Berserk. EJ tells me to pop it as soon as possible (though not at low/high energy and not directly after Tiger's Fury), so that's what I've been doing. Perhaps applying a 5p Rip and 5p Savage Roar would be better. Then I can pop Berserk and spam Shred for 15 seconds (well, when I don't have to refresh Rake - seriously hate that ability). With a timed Tiger's Fury, I should be able to refresh Savage Roar and Rip before they run out after Berserk fades.

Hmm, going to have to try this next run.

If I was cool, I'd time that Berserk to go with the Mirror proc, but I'm not a god and I'd probably break down crying if I tried to keep track of all that **** plus trinkets.

My start is usually Mangle, SR, Rake, Shred, Shred, TF, Rip (at 5pts), Shred, Shred, BESERK!! This gives you the benefit of the TF buff and still gives you an early Beserk which, depending on raid DPS, will allow me a 2nd Beserk at the end of the fight.

There are so many little things to get not quite right with out rotation that it can be really hard to work out whats happening. Missing buffs can be a massive thing (we've been short sunders and 10% AP some nights). RNG can be a kicker - a good day 13k, a bad day 9k. Not only do you lose the more than double damage from a lack of crits due to RNG, but you also lose the combo points which can affect either your rip/rake/SR uptime or the potential for some 25k FB's.

If you want to "check" your rotation then download the mod Ovale and plug in one of the scripts in this thread at EJ's. Saurfang is a perfect fight to try it on as you can afford to stare at it and follow its suggestions fully (very boring fight for us, even in hard mode!). It might suggest something slightly different to what you are doing which may help a little.

This just occured to me: Playing kitty sounds a lot like chess without time to think.

Is that so? I wanted to dual-spec my druid kitty but I even mess up simpler rotations sometimes.

Thanks Rare, I'll definitely give that a go. Ovale looks a lot like BadKitty, but from what I've gathered, it'll display the optimal ability to use at that given time whereas BadKitty (the way I have it set up, at least) simply shows what abilities are about to fall of or aren't on the target yet.

Might be what I need!

Edit: I spent some time on the dummy before logging and my average unbuffed DPS is now 5k solid, which is a 500 DPS improvement since last time I was on it. I'm a little concerned with RNG, though, and I'm sure my inferior DPS is also due to not using Ferocious Bite on most fights. I've been scolded something fierce by the dreaded 8k FB hit far too many times to rely on my 85% chance to score a FB crit.

GET OFF MY LAWN.

Also I had a cat copy my cat spec cause I yelled at him.

Additionally, I now use my T1 MC gear to recruit PuGs for hard raids.

I look good. Like really good.

The numbers I had mentioned before pretty much assume every buff possible.

*Do you have might? Maybe you do, but is it improved might? Or just something some holy paladin threw on you?
*Do you have access to blust? Was it on cd for the specific fight you're trying to compare to spreadsheet numbers?
*Windfury/Icy Talons? Improved?
*Horn of Winter/Str of Earth Totem?
*Speed Pot?
*Unleashed Rage/Abominable Might/Trueshot Aura? (10% AP)
*Sanctified Retribution/Ferocious Inspiration? (3% more damage)
*Kings
*Sunder x5?
*Heart of the Crusader/Master Poisoner/Totem of Wrath? (More Crit %)
*Blood Frenzy/Savage Combat? (4% more physical Damage)
*Flask/Food Buff?
*Faerie Fire?

It's easy to forget to bring the one or two specs that bring a buff/debuff that no one is paying attention to and in other cases it's easy to simply not care about what buffs/debuffs are available and instead just focus on filling out a raid.

It was a 25-man PUG, so I'm assuming almost every buff was available, though whether they were being applied, that's another matter. We did have a Shaman, so I had access to Bloodlust, which is probably why my DPS got to 8k in the end.

I've played around with Rawr some more, setting up buffs to match what we usually have in our 10-man raids. It says somewhere around 7.5k DPS, which isn't too far from what I can put out on Saurfang. The issue is that Saurfang is a one of a kind boss in there, from what I've gathered. All the running around/away from Bone Storm on Marrowgar, adds on Gunships, adds on Valithria, running away from oozes on Rotface, the adds and stuns on Putricide, the switching of targets on Blood-Princes... other than Saurfang which is a straight-up DPS race for melee, only Festergut comes to mind as an ideal fight for Kitties, assuming you don't have to run out with a spore.

There's just way too much target switching or target dropping in the game for me to not feel frustrated with the horribly long ramp-up I have.

Sad panda. Smiley: frown

Since it was previously discussed here, what time do you euronubs play typically? No point in even barking up that tree if the timing doesn't work.

Cause it's like midnight in London right now and now is when I would usually get on. I sincerely doubt you all are the graveyard, midnight-4am type.
