Is Druid right for me?Follow

I just got a new PC and I've heard alot of good things about WoW and intend to get it. I'm big fan of the Warcraft games, books, and I like to RP. I was thinking of becoming a Night Elf Druid. I've played FFXI and I like healing and support which I hear Druid does well. I don't plan on being a Priest though because after 40 levels of White Mage in FFXI I'm done with being nothing more than the party "healing *****". I had stopped playing WHM and took RDM even farther and enjoyed it more because it had a variety of support abilities but did more than spam cure spells.

The Druid's caster form sounds alot like Red Mage what with all the healing and support spells, but also decent offensive spells. My thought process is to focus pretty much entirely on the Druids regular form instead of the animal forms. I hear the animal forms are gimped and they don't appeal that much to me anyway. So would Druid be for me? Malfurion was the greatest Druid and he didn't go around turning into animals so I figure caster Druid would be good. I hear you get to focus on certain aspects of your job in this game so could I do that?

Here is my breakdown on the class. I am currently Level 34.

He is the red mage of the game yes. His other forms are decent so far, but more useful in solo than groups. The bear can tank now however with new patch ;). But you want to know about casting. IMO, he has the hands down best varied of support spells as long as you are outdoors. Hiberate is a sleep, entangle roots is very useful in PvP, faerie fire cant hurt, and Moonfire is good damage over time. he also has abolish poison and curse which is useful in a group. He has the best hp healed per mana of all classes but it has high casting time. I am not amazing in PvP, but with a partner i am. I play a lot with my 34 hunter friend. Together we PvP well. I entangle them, then faerie, and he gets free reign to drop big nukes in on them. If my mage friend comes along they unit is nuked to death in second. They both need range and i provide. If you get several druids, the Moonfire Damage over time stacks (1 per druid). This adds up fast. The druid really is all purpose without being useless. By using your talent points wisely you can make yourself a superior caster with spells that can make instant cast, no mana casting, and massive mana regen (400%) for a time. I am currently working a talent that doubles the critical damage on 3 spells. That means my starfire would critical for near 1k damage at level 34. Not bad. As long as you are ok knowing that you really shine your best as support he is for you

Awsome! Thanks alot. I'll probably be getting this game tommorow. It's nice to know that I'll be able to focus on what I like but still be able to hold my own in PvP and solo. ^.^

We are versatile. We're not the best at anything but we're pretty good at a lot of things.

If you're into PvP we are not the best one on one PvP class, just so you are aware. Get more than one of us together, or group us with someone like a mage or a hunter and we are a big problem for the enemy, however.

We're a very good solo class. With a variety of healing spells and well-used talent points you can manage to solo well without too much downtime. You can go with the forms or with the caster. The forms, even if you don't use them that often, still come in handy in certain situations and are worth having. For example, if you have cat form and stealth ability you can stealth around indefinitely as a rogue can, and this is extremely useful in some situations as you can imagine.

In groups we're also very useful as add-ons. We can add-on damage with our offensive spells. We can also heal pretty well (but slow cast so you need to time it well) and then defend ourselves. With the patch we can tank better in bear form than previously so can be an off-tank if needed.

It's a versatile class, the key to playing it is mastering all of the tools in the toolbox and applying them well to a given situation.
