Unless you are a twink, or have alot of gold to spend, just pick up something from drops or quests. There is NO reason to waste alot of money on weapons at that level if you are going to level to 70. Until you have gold set to spend on spells each level, ammo, food, mount, repairs and anything else I would try to save up your money.

The actual type of weapon is irrelevant. We hunters can use anything except maces and wands.

What's important is the stats. Whenever possible, use weapons that boost your Ranged abilities -- Agility, Attack Power, and Crit for damage, Int and Spirit for more casting. Stamina is also an important consideration, although less important to a hunter than to a melee class.

Whichever adds the most stats to you. IE. which one gives you more agility, stamina, etc. There is no one weapon is better than the other. One thing to consider though with a 2hd weapon your raptor strikes will be greater than with 2 weapons.

Whichever combo gives the best stats. It's that simple. The damage of the weapon is pretty irrelevant unless you pvp, in which case people usually go for a slow, hard hitting 2hander.

As I said, the type of weapon is irrelevant. Only the stats matter.

One thing you may want to consider is keep one of each type of weapon in the bank, and take the time to keep each skill current (or nearly so). Don't buy the uber of uber weapons, you replace weapons and gear so quickly as you level it isn't worth spending a lot. Just troll the AH for decent items that you think are affordable, or simply wait for them to drop.

Skilling up Melee will take time - you will level far faster just letting the pet tank and DPSing from range - but there will be times when you just have to get up close and personal. These situations should be avoided, but it is nice to be ready for them when they arise.

You never know what weapon type will drop next for your toon. Best to be ready for anything. So, to answer the OP's question, the best melee weapon for you is the one with the best stats, whatever its type is. Just be ready for it. It would be a shame if you found a really nice 2H Axe, and found your skill in 2H Axe so low that you can never hit anything with it. Your melee weapon isn't decoration, it should be functional too.

Get a good gun and a crossbow (if you can find one - you can skip crossbows if you want) as well. Keep all ranged skills up to date. As I leveled up, it varied which was better for me at any given time.

additionally don't bother too much with meelee dps or chance on hit equipment. your junk stat is strenght and meelee ap. your bread and butter is agi/ranged dps, intel, mp/5, stamina, your semi junk stat is spirit. your junk stat (ie best ignored stat) is strength. A hunter running up to meelee the mob had best have run out of arrows or you're going to be considered the mage who though he was a rogue.

well my suggestion would be to get a staff. Although they are 2-hand, they come with gr8 +sta and/or +agi.there are cheap staves that give good stats. And another thing is that they have a good melee damage if ur just going up to WC or RS.
