Hello, i play World of Warcraft on a regular basis and take a look on these forum very often, i never posted here until now.. i need your opinions and thoughts on my last in game experience earlier this evening...
(please forgive me in advance for my english, it's my second language.)
I post this on the Druid forum to have your way of thinknig, and your suggestions about what happened: Did i acted wrong or not? (i also posted this thread on the Warlock forum)
I play on Emerald dream server as a druid(Lv26), curently and planning to stay a "Resto" druid, working on my mana and healing+ to keep my healing capacity at best(i play and main heal in every instance runs i have the chance to group in.)
Sorry for the long intro, i really want to make myself clear to have an unbiased answer(s).
I joined a pick up group(here we go..) for "SFK" as the main healer, party setup:
-paladin X2
-warlock
-me, resto druid
-warrior (the warlock and him are two close friends, he was also the party leader)
Ok, long story short; we do the instance and kill Archmage Arugal, the robe drop.(Robes of Arugal) best robe(i think) for any spellcaster in this level range(i consider myself a spellcaster since i only heal and wear Int, spirit, healing+ gear because that's what i =>NEED<= to do my job at best as a =>MAIN<= healer in 5mans groups)
(Robes of Arugal: +9int +10spi +5sta +3agi)
So at the end of the fight, Warlock and i "NEED" rolled the robe, the second after i rolled; warlock's friend(the warrior who was party leader) kicked me from the party to let his friend get the robe(he rolled after, once i was out of group)
Warlock's point: "-You dont need cloth use leather, you dont know what bear form and armor is Lawl"(...)
My point: "-as you noticed i didnt tank or dealt damage, i healed the group."
Too add to the drama, when i was out of the group and was going to cast Teleport:Moonglade (i was mad from the warrior's attitude of kicking me wihtout saying anything) i ended up winning to NEED roll just before i disapeared from SFK and so got the robe...
The question, do you druids consider a druid a "ninja or w/e" to roll need on a spellcaster item that can help both of them(i.e. that robe in this level range)

I wouldn't consider it ninja'ing, but if theres clothies in teh grooup, you should ask. My main is a rogue, and if a feral druid wants to roll on a "rogue" item, i usually odnt mind letting them roll when they ask, so i'm sure it works that way on cloth too.

Before Outland, there are almost no leather armor for caster; so it's quite normal needing those cloth armor to do a better job. I am a feral druid (so all leather on that side), but I have a healing kit which have lots of cloth armor in it.

Like others said, it's always good to warn first. However, what you did was perfectly normal. If they had chosen a Priest healer, the Warlock still would've had to deal with the competition.
The best advice I can give you is: At the beginning of the instance, when the group is on its way to the instance, let everyone know that you'll be rolling on Cloth items since you are specced Resto. It's important to let them know why, not just "Hey, I'll roll on cloth".
If people object, I'd suggest leaving that group. They're probably too narrow-minded to understand. You can also stay in that group and roll on the cloth regardless. Some people may disagree but it's what I'd do. There are LOTS of people rolling on stuff they don't really need just because they could use it or whatever, but you know you do need that stuff. So roll. Or find more understanding parties.

I'm a warlock (28) and I found that piece of crap armor subpar to my needs (@#$@ little stamina and no +damage which are the 2 main warlock needs). In any case I'd probabally level a little more then run gromer for the quest chest. you don't have the same luxury as the triprunner dungrees is something a druid will be dumb not to pick up from that quest. additionally if you have a higher level guildie. (say level 40+) the two of you can zerg sfk in 40 or so min anyway. so don't sweat it. (my timing when I was 60 rogue was 26 min. I started the timing at the door by popping on an instant poison.) a guildie was running behind me looting the wool and boe junk. and passing me the wool/ boe blues when he ran out of space.
tried again at 63 and the timing dropped to 23 min... 80% of the time was just running from one mob to another and only popping ss+ S&D. Though the kings would take up to mmmm. 15 seconds each? cept the last guy who took 30 seconds because he cursed me... good thing I was engineer and had jumper cables xl to res the guildie.

First of all. It is hard to say that the Gnomer quest reward was available. Thanks to BC there are paladins on the Horde side now and it was not said which faction he belongs to. I really do not know what options there are for locks when it comes to the horde as all I have ever played is on the alliance.
As mentioned before, I would have talked to the group before rolling on a cloth item but other than that I see no real issue with what you did. I myself did similar when looking for gear to use for healing. Until I started raiding I had a few decent cloth pieces in my healing set. (including a rather bright blue robe that was horrifyingly ugly on a male NE.....though it did match my hair :P ) Quite frankly early on and pretty much throughout levels 1-60 there is very little gear that can be considered as sole druid priority. The reason we have any at all is due to it being leather with caster stats on it instead of rogue ones or it is a class quest reward. Otherwise until you start heading into the BC gear most drops are specific to one of our "parent" classes.

The quest reward mentioned, Civinad Robes, is from a quest that is available to both Alliance and Horde. It won't have the same name and the quest giver will differ, but the choice of reward is the same.
Perhaps not the greatest chest piece for a Lock with all that Spirit, but meh.

What??? That makes absolutely no sense...what do paladins and BC have anything to do with what the thread is about. The gnomer quest is available to both sides...obviously and there are many options for locks for horde lol??
Anyways, it seems to me that some people don't grasp the fact that druids have a talent tree called "Restoration" and when they put points into this tree, shapeshifting into Bear or Cat form is seemingly pointless. There are close to no leather items, only those with alot of spirit and stam and no int. The only other choice would be cloth items. Obviously these people in your group (more specifically the lock and his friend) are young and stupid nor have they played a druid to know anything about them. After asking countless times in instances "can i need" it is obvious the rules are all the same, "if you need, then need it" no questions or anything should come after that. I think what happened with your instance, the warlock was obviously running it for that sole purpose "Robes of Arugal" and forgot to mention he was running it for the robes. Stupid mistake...you did nothing wrong.

red as I said when he posted this in the warlock forum, it depends. For the class warlock, the stats/ abilities are not in the same order to be effective for him. For other cloth classes it's more effective and they have preference over druids for cloth items. (generally) however for warlock they have a differnt stat/ability grading system and the stat/abilitie they need are not served by the item ie it's more considered ffa as there was no priest or mage to claim precedence.
if the stats of the item were (in the order of strong to lesser stats)
+heal/damage
Stamina
intel.
Then it would fall towards the warlock as it is
1. cloth
2. his primary stats.
for a druid resto,
it is
+ heal/damage
spirit/mana/5 or stamina as second and third stat
intel for no 4.
for druid moonkin
+ heal/damage/intel (they count the same for moonkin ie 1&2)
stamina
spirit, mp/5

A little outdated for a level 40, but I haven't found anything better yet, because when I'm not healing I end up having to tank or DPS. For some reason you can always find a warlock. Not great, but they get the job done.

Its true that it never hurts to ask but i was in ZF a couple days ago and zum rahz vexing cane dropped i had and old mace from SM i told that i was needing and even so a priest got all worked up.
I dont get why. the cane has +stam +int and +spelldmg im balance btw.

A little intro here, lvl 60 Balance Druid. Love my spec, fantastic for soloing and healing. That said, I do alot of PUG's for dungeons. I always get invites, and am always asked back. I usually main heal in every dungeon I do. Why? Not the Spec (although Balance is a solid spec for healing as opposed to feral). Because I know what I am doing, how to triage heals, not over heal, and not let others go to long w/o a heal. I watch helath bars like a hawk. I will respec resto, for end game raiding, because my soloing will be done, and unfortuantly many ppl don't realize how good a Balance can be. Most raid groups will only bring in Resto Druids and my Pally friends tell me only Holy Pally's

This was my first character, and I stayed in leather the entire time. Especially as I got into the mid 30's and 40's I really made great use of the leather side, having it custom made. My guildie partner, "who lvl'd up w/ me" is a master leatherworker now. He went tribal (he is also druid) because it had the best stats for us. Intell (gave me a huge mana pool) and Spirit (regain) for everything. This may work well for Healing to, Stamina is one I never focused on, I just started picking it up now that I hit 60. I have always been able to kill NPC's well above my lvl. Between my mana pool, innervate (which I jealously guard- no sharing :)),and my pots. I am a master alchemist. I rarely run OOM.
As for rolling on cloth items. We are allowed cloth/leather. I suppose even a warrior could grab a cloth if he wanted to :). If you feel it could better benefit you, then you have the right to roll on it. In my practice, and amoung my guild we "ask" before "needing" anything. There is always time. Depending on the item, if I think there will be a question on it, I always give my reason. (for ex. I need any alchemy pot I do not know. I'll simply say, Can I need? Alchemist.) I have not gotten a "no" yet.
They we're definatly wrong in how they treated you, and would end up on my ignore list. All I would say to you, is before you need anything ask first, (as a courtsey) and give a reason if there is a question. However you do have the right to need.

The obvious solution to this problem is to decide how the booty will be divided up before starting the raid/quest. It really isn't a question of being fair, but rather an agreement on what is fair. If you can't get the group to agree on this, then there really isn't any point in continuing with them and I would move on.
Personally I find it easier if everyone just greeds and takes whatever comes from that regardless of the nature of the drop.

I have a level 41 resto druid who has become the main healer of a small but melee-heavy PvE guild.
Not since my very first DM run with him has anyone queried me rolling Need on cloth, and my guild are all well aware of the fact that out of all my items, only 3 are leather. Neither them, nor me, have any problem with it... they realise that the better I am at casting, the more likely they are to stay alive!
