Back to shadow...but did I make a mistake??Follow

Hello all!

I recently asked for build advice for my holy/disc priest - I was going to be mainly healing in instances, so I specced that way to be some what more effecient and so that in pugs I could possibly cope better when they were retards.

Last night was the last straw, how ever. It's been hard to play with my guild since they're mainly working on their 70s, so I've been pugging a lot more...but I can't take it anymore. The last two weeks I've been getting the bottom of the barrel, last night it was mainly a rogue who was totally insane. He lead us too three wipes, and then I got DCed. Didn't even try to log back on. Then this morning before I headed off to work - I said the hell with it and respecced shadow. Now normally I work out builds a great deal before hand, but I was feeling some what mad about it all - so just respecced how I wanted. I think I made a mistake though - looking back on the build. I'll mainly be solo/pvp untill I gather up a good bit of the caster PvP gear from AB and WSG, and I might stay 49 for a few months, getting more rep and a ton of marks for later and some more honor pts.

Either way, this is my build...

I would have skipped on spirit tap, but since I will still be grinding up to 49 I figured I would put some in it, and spec it out when I get there for the pvp. I also don't know why I put one single point into shadow weaving.

I'll have to see how it works in hole - but I figured the imp vamp. embrace might be nice to have, even if I might only get a little use out of it - it would still be nice to heal myself atleast, might be just enough to patch up some of my booboos. But yea, I would love some feedback - did I TOTALLY botch it or is it salvagable so I won't have to drop 25g for a respec just yet.

Thanks a ton

i cannot access to the link you provided. WoW website is blocked at my workplace.

at lvl 49 and fitting the style i play shadow priest, my spec would look something like

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=rZZxMgzMtRhtV

not going to claim it's the best pvp/solo build but it suits my playstyle.

unless you like pvp a lot, i would advice against gathering caster pvp gears from battlegrounds. instead, go straight to outland. you will find good +damage cloth gears. save your honor pts and marks for lvl 70 pvp gears. but that's just my opinion....

You know, its not bad. It's not a million miles away from what my alt priest is like at the moment. I personally have 4 points in shadow weaving at the moment, primarily because I'm questing at about 3 levels above me (all orange) and that extra damage goes a long way. As far as a grinding build goes, I like it. Also, spirit tap was definitely not a mistake while you're still leveling. Unless you're intending to do lots of instances/bgs you should keep it to save on the water bills.

Welcome to the club!

A little history on my priest. I was pure shadow until 66, when I specced to a holy damage spec with some extra healing. I got to 70 and respecced to a total healing build. The spec was only good for instance healing and since everyone seems to be building up a hatred of holy priests right now, I was a little frustrated. So now I'm back to shadow. Specifically, 14/0/47.

As for your build, you really didn't do a bad job. It's totally workable and no respec is necessary if you don't want to pony up that kind of gold. That said however, my thoughts:

1) If you're doing a lot of grinding, I would recommend maxed Spirit Tap. On the other hand, if you really are planning on PvPing forever at 49, I'd spec completely out of it in favor of Blackout and points somewhere else.

2) You have the perfect number of points in Shadow Focus for PvP right now. If I recall correctly, 6% will overcome the base resistance every spell faces against other players(once you're 49 and not facing opponents at a higher level). For PvE however, I recommend 5/5 since you do have a chance of facing higher level mobs. Less resists=Less mana used=Deader opponent quicker.

3) Silence is a must for PvP. Yes, the two talent points in Psychic Scream are extremely painful, but silence is just too good in a PvP build.

4) Shadow Reach maxed out for PvP at that level. Gives you that extra little bit when you need it.

5) Shadow Weaving is a staple of the shadow priest. Extra damage just for doing damage. That's good stuff you don't want to give up. I'd max it out over time.

6) At that level, Misery is a better talent than Shadow Power in my opinion. Shadow Power only affects one spell (Mind Blast) until you get Shadow Word: Death in your 60's and stupid Mind Blast is on a cooldown (I like the spell, it's our only nuke, I'm just angry at the CD). 5% extra spell damage though? Effects them all.

7) Not really a comment on your build, but Vampiric Embrace is a great talent for both PvP and PvE. I'd recommend putting it up as often as possible while PvPing and when needed in PvE.

Wow that was a mouthful. In reality, you don't have a single talent point in a talent I wouldn't consider worthwhile. So if you're happy with the build, just keep on trucking. In addition, I'm no expert so please don't be offended by any changes I've recommended. If it's working for you, it works!

Enjoy the power of the shadow.

Thanks for the advice - I really do want to spec for silence as it would help SO much - I thought I could handle a lot with scream, interupt heals and all with it - but that was a dumb thought, haha. That's one of the things I do plan to change , yes the imp psy scream will such to have to take, but I think you're right and will be more than worth it. Not having any real interupt/silence apart from scream blows.

Misery I will certainly think about maxing, and was one thing I was looking at that I really liked - the one reason I DIDNT take it is that my SW:Ps do often get dispelled and it would be horribly mana ineffecient (I think) to throw up another one just to get a little extra boost again, which will again be dispelled...how ever I didn't even think about just using rank one SW:P to keep up the misery - well maybe it would be worth it! People don't usually pay close attention to what rank things are when they dispel, so maybe I could use that to also drain the other persons mana if they are constantly dispelling (where it be a priest thats helping the group, or a priest/shammy themselves.

Thanks again for the help though :D
