I'm seriously considering respeccing prot for my guild so we can progress further through karazhan. As our regular prot warriors have been ******** around on alts alot or have't had as much time to play and as a result aren't geared enuff to try to MT karazhan.

We normally run with a prot pld tank who is very good. But of course not as good as a full prot warrior.

Anyways to the point. How good a talent is Vitality?

While I am not a full prot spec warrior myself, I would think why not grab an extra 5% sta and 10% str since you need 40 points to get to devistate anyways.

I can easily get 40 points in prot without taking vitality.

My str is so low in my tank gear that 10% equate to about another 20ish str.

Five percent more hp sounds nice just not really sure where it is worth the 5 point investment.

Any long time prot warriors that wanna jump in here feel free to give advice.

It's not %5 more HP. It's 5% more sta.

Your character at 70 will have around 4500+ base HP (warriors).

Say you have 700 Stamina. Which is around 7000 HP.
700 x 1.05 = 735, or 7350 HP.

So you can spend 5 talent points for 350 hp.

The 10% str is nice. But again, not necessary.

I'd level with it if I were protection, since the strength bonus is really nice and prot certainly needs all the help it can get solo. But at 70? No. Not unless I had 2000 vit. Then again, if I had 2000 vit I suppose I'd be pretty well off with or without it :P

It doesn't seem much when you run your numbers but in the min/max world of the main tank every little helps and whenever you die by a slight fraction you'll end up asking yourself time and again if that would have happened if you'd taken vitality instead.

My advice is to bite the bullet and take it.

personally, id say no. devastate is nice, but i think youd be better suited going deeper into fury and getting commanding presence and piercing howl. PH is a GREAT tanking ability, allowing you to kite groups in a pinch and buy AoE some more time to do their thing, while the hp increase you get from commanding presence pretty much equals the hp increase youd get from vitality now.

once you get better gear, maybe vitality will be worth it more, as CS doesnt scale with stam, but for now, id say the utility of the fury talents outweighs the use of devastate and vitality.

Thanks for the info. So a 8/16/37 build?

While i agree devastate isn't needed to tank with, if you're planning to grind/farm/pvp/dps-at-aran at any point i would highly recommend taking it. I've used both builds with and without it and basically if i didn't take it but still put a huge amounts of points into Prot i couldn't do anything but tank to a satisfactory degree.

i've been running with a 13-5-43 build and liking it immensely more than 8-0-53 heh heh... it still sucks for pvp though.

two points in imp heroic were kind of throwaway, but couldn't see anywhere else i'd get use from them.

i really really missed anger management.

Mine is pretty similar as 8-10-43. I;ve officially become addicted to Imp Demo shout, but i too still get twinges for Anger Management, mainly for the good old days back in BWL when you could abuse it to run into every fight with 100 rage. :(

Nice builds guys but I got to ask, why imp shield bash over imp taunt? Afaik there aren't any bosses that can be shield bashed.

Does it really cement hate on casters that well?

I love shield bash for locking down heroic caster mobs personally, and its pretty nice in pvp too.

i like imp shield bash because it limits caster mobs to melee for three seconds, so they'll follow you out of a tight spot trying to keep in melee range.

gives a lot more control over positioning than the bow pull -> run away for 5 seconds -> intercept back method.

you can charge caster mob -> shield bash -> strafe back to group -> def stance -> tclap and away you go.
