What does FADE doFollow

I thought that if I pulled mobs becuase I was healing someone I could use the spell FADE and the mobs would stop attacking me.

That doesn't seem to happen.

So how do I best use FADE

Fade temporarily reduces your aggro. Key word is temporarily. So it doesn't work like a hunter's feign death which eliminates all aggro when used.

You use it like you mentioned but the warrior needs to be paying attention and once the mob leaves you from fade he needs to get a few hits on it to regain its aggro.

If after you Fade the mob is still attacking you, then you had too much aggro. Like i crit-healed a lock for 6k and just next the war for 5k. Insta aggro, insta death.

Use fade often, not just when you get aggro and mobs come for you. After a Prayer of Healing, use fade. After you crit-healed the tank or some other guy, use fade. Use fade if you heal a Hunter. They are known to FD and then all aggro gets on you. Bah, use fade whenever it's up.

Btw.. make sure you have maxed Silent Resolve. (or at least 3-4 points)

Very, very bad advice.

Apart from wasting mana: If you dont have aggro and use fade it does absolutly nothing, the mobs still wont attack you, while they already werent. Then when you do grab aggro you cant use fade bc of the 30 sec cd.

So only use fade when you grab aggro.

Just remember that every priest heal is equilavent of an AOE on all the mobs, aggro wise. Remember: 2 hp healed is the same aggro as 1 hp damage.
Not getting in the more intricate mob awereness that comes somewhat into play with raiding. You can say that healing the tank for 3k hp is the same as nuking the entire group of mobs for 1500 hp each.

So if you see a hunter / rogue grabbing aggro and not shedding after the first heal, just let him die, dont spam heal him and grab aggro from the mob(s) yourself. Because you will outheal his damage.

At least for me, letting overnuking DD's die on purpose is 99/100 bc of aggro reasons instead of mana managing reasons.

Shortcut fade on youre keyboard, the second a mob comes running for you hit fade. Dont heal anything beside the tank while youre faded, let every other (noob) DD just die.

As noted before it does require a tank that knows how to play, recognizes fade and gives that mob some extra love and attention. Without a tank that knows his instance 101, fade is useless since its temporary.

This sentece also gives 2 misconceptions i feel i have to clarify.

1. You dont generate aggro for overheals, if you heal a target for 4k hp but he has lost 500hp (so 3500hp overheal) you only get aggro for that 500 hp healed.
2. Aggro doesnt fade over time, (like in FFXI) all aggro generated will stay on the mob until he dies. (skills like fe: invisible and feign death excluded)

So in conclusion, if you only heal the tank and nobody else and you grab aggro from a mob its because:

1. The tank sucks, undergeared and/or unskilled.
2. Youre group doesnt have enough CC (eg: sheep/sap)
Anyway, its not youre fault, you cant help it. If in that situation a group blames you for wiping, leave immediatly, you wont see the end of the instance.

My party never dies because of aggro, but because i'm out of mana (in the rare cases). I will never, NEVER allow ppl to die if i can do something about it. (Except for those that need to learn lessons)

Did i say anywhere it was overheal? Those were pure healing. My overhealing usually in instances is <10%, 7% usually, and that is from crits (25% overheal from crits)

So with wipes you are always the last one to die?
Then tell me youre secret! ;-)

I said you gave misconceptions, as in, someone like the OP who doesnt know otherwise can interpret it wrongly very easily.

It was not my aggro i was talking about. I know, i have a feeling when i pull aggro. If there are 4+ mobs, usually i'll get aggro once per fight, but i know how to use fade. Most of the time is because of a PoH. So if i need to cast one, i'm ready to fade.

You will almost every time have more aggro on at least 1 mob than the tank.

But sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself. If you die, you have 15 seconds of free heals. And this saved the day more than once. Like at last boss in Shattered Halls. I died, casted 2 PoH, renew on tank, PoM, and renew whoever i could. Boss died, and i had SS.

Also, learn to spec Silent Resolve. And learn to party with good ppl. Steamvault bosses killed in 30 mins anyone?

There's the key :P Group I'm often with puts out enough burst damage that downing a mob with 12k hp usually takes between 6 and 8 seconds. Healing becomes very easy when the mob only gets off one or two shots, or if all 5 people are juggling aggro so fast that the mob never even gets a hit on one person :P

Do NOT rely on Fade. It's nice to have, but it doesn't even drop the aggro from ONE heal at level 70. Know when to use it, use it when you have to, but try and stay in the position to not use it. A good tactic is to Fade, refresh renews and PoM if you have it, and then go back to healing the tank, as it gives a few seconds of low aggro on your part while the tank or CC can take care of the mob.
