I recently started BGing more heavily. I have noticed that heals tend to be in great demand at all times. I personally am a H/D specc all the way and try to heal exclusively. My DMG:Heal ratio is usually close to a 1:4 which I take pride in. However, why is it that no one understands the idea of groups in BG? They whine when they die, but they dont understand that we might actually be able to heal them if they stuck together. Anyways it was a good rant i think.
P.S. Why is it that people dont understand that a priest is usually the first target of any type of CC? The moment I enter battle I usually become a sheep for the majority of the time until the rest of my group are laying in a heap around my furry white self. Then im promptly brought back to reality with a combined pyroblast->ambush that stings the nerves. What can i say? Healing aint easy.

Yeah, I find that cc thing applies a lot to priests. As to healing in battlegrounds, I only heal in battlegrounds where the other players clearly know what they are doing. Sadly, being an alliance player I find that more often than not I am not protected enough to do any healing whatsoever. When this is the case I usually just go shadowform and start nuking like mad, usually winding up close to top on kills and damage. At the end of the day, battlegrounds should be fun. So although I enjoy both the healing and the damage side, if I can't get off more than one or two flash heals due to being left to fend for myself then I will not do the other players the courtesy of following them around to heal.
You could follow a lvl 70 epic geared warrior in a bg and the only thing that would happen is they'd cc him and just nuke you, or cc you and nuke him. Both ways you'd be lucky to do anything before you die.
I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat with my priest. I've started using the following strategy for AB. Find a rouge or druid that knows what they're doing and stick with them on defense. They stealth while I become bait. When attackers show up, I shield while the stealth person moves in behind. Once they start attacking I throw on a SW:Pain and move to the sidelines. If need be I start throwing out shields and heals to keep my stealth person alive. It's extremely effective because everyone always wants to kill a lone priest. Since I'm discipline spec they always get a little surprise when I'm shielded too. :)

I've seen numerous WSG-s won by a healer because my (amazing) group couldn't understand why the warrior didn't die.
Whenever i killed the priest, they failed to get the flag. If they killed me before i could kill the priest they would ALWAYS cap.
You're a key part and thus, the first that has to be put out of combat by whatever means :)

I know this thread isn't really for discussing talents, but it is about battlegrounds and there is something I have been wondering whilst browsing the forums and considering making a priest.
I might way off here, but reflective shield seems like an excellent talent for battlegrounds, but no one ever even gives it a mention, good or bad. What are your opinions on this talent?

Reflective shield will help you kill things a little faster if you are questing solo. It's just a little extra dps when the priest is in melee range.
In BG, if you are in melee range, you are probably going to die.

I was kind of applying it more to the shield you put on your teammates. I guess it really depends on how much damage the shield can absorb. Besides, seeing as the priest I did decide to roll is level 3 I don't want to waste your time with endless questions about talent some way off to me so I'll go with the theory that it's mediocre and maybe I'll test it out at some point.
Tbh I should probably have realised that a talent no one speaks good or bad of was going to be mediocre. Thanks for your response anyway and I look forward to more discussions when my priest gets going. For now I just cant wait start to healing my teammates :D

Reflective shield is really fun to throw on a rogue or pet you are helping. It's not the most mana efficient way to keep them healed however.

After my 70 respec to Holy/Dis I took my first few trips to the BGs since my 50s when I was shadow. I threw on my healing set and announced before the match started that I'd be healing if people could keep me alive. I got a pretty surprising reaction when a rogue and hunter ended up basically body guarding me for a good portion of the match. I died a lot but in the end I did something like 150k in healing where as even the pallies on the team were down around 11k. From my observations I noticed a few things.
1. You are way more important in a BG as a healer than a damage dealer. The heals you dish out can make or break an attack.
2. Spirit of Redemption is actually fairly useful in BGs since you'll be DPSed very hard by enemy players once they figure out that you're healing.
3. You'll die a lot once the other team figures out you're healing.

Points well made, I think it's just the mage in me trying squeeze out every last bit of damage when I should really be trying to squeeze out every last bit of healing with this class. I'll go for the improved healing talents instead I guess.
I don't think its the mage in you. In general healing is just a rather thankless task in BGs. Everyone loves to get heals but nobody wants to help protect you so it really takes a mother goose personality to continue healing. I don't really blame any shadow priests for choosing not to heal in BGs, but I still stand by my point that a priest is more important as a healer than a DPSer in BGs.
