I wish to dissmiss one of my pets forever, I want to train onother pet in his place, I have a stables occupied. How do I get rid of a pet?

ole yeller will make the toughest hunter cry.
Even though the OP figured it out, for those new Hunters who don't know:
Target your pet. Right click the portrait. Drop down menu will have the option "Abandon".
This is permanent, and not reversable. Be sure.

Oh, and just to add to what Shelor said... When you get rid of your pet this way, it flat out disappears. When you release the pets you tame during your level 10 Taming quest, they turn and attack you.
