Raiding UA or Ruin????

I've been torn trying to figure out which would be a better spec for raiding were starting to run kara. I know with the ruin spec spamming shadowbolts for trash mobs would be more dps, but i dont really want to sacrifice UA on boss fights. we havnt actually started kara yet so I dont even know how long trash will take to kill. My current gear puts me at 12% crit and close to 1k shadow dmg. thanks.

I have been wondering this also. I've been trying to plan a build for a few weeks now, and am kinda stuck. I guess I am really worrying about it too much as I am only 43 ATM. All I have really decided on is that SM, Dark Pact, IHoT, Demonic Embrace, Imp. Imp and Shadowburn are things I feel I must have. With the leftover points, should I move the rest of the way down Affliction for , or go for more Destro(read: Ruin).

I would like to be viable in both PvP and Raids. Which is the better choice. I still have plenty of time to make these decisions, as I still need to get Shadowburn and IHoT, but I'm just lost after that.

Raiding and Just raiding? UA is better, mostly because it is a given constant. Ruin depends on luck, even though I prefer ruin(because i PVP) but when it comes down to the numbers UA will do concenstantly more dammage. Ruin may spike DPS every now and then, but your real dammage power comes from DoTs that run the corse. I belive that you have to have neer 48-50% crit for Ruin to pass UA in reliable dammage, keeping in mind that to get that huge crit rate you cannot let other stuff suffer(like spell dammage).

UA dose even keel dammage, and is not as likely to draw aggro since it is applyed smoothly and at a unifrom rate(allowing tanks to maintain aggro). Now the real question is what do YOU want?

Yep UA is consistently better. I'm malediction/ruin at the moment as a bit of a compromise to give me fel concentration, as well as shadow embrace, malediction and decent dps. I'm positive that for heroics and trash, 40/0/21 is superior, due to not having to have your dots tick their full duration to do great dps and the lower resist rate. But I would hazard a guess that UA with my gear (which is quite similar to yours) would net me about 80 more dps.
