Ok, Lv12 hunter ATM and I've been reading as much as my free time will allow (give or take a few hours to game).
I have a similar question, but I realy don't want to start a new thread for it. So, sorry OP but this might even help you...
I've read that a patch has sort of "nerfed" rare finds. I've been wondering, did they nerf all rare pets, or just some? Some of the posts I've read give me mixed feelings about what was nerfed, or how badly. I've read the speed was nerfed, but still see alot of peeps talking about KB or even Broken Tooth as been very effective DPSs because of attack speed. Old news or still true?
So... is taiming a rare pet just for looks now, or are they still worth the time?
Hope I was clear >.> I guess I'm just confused on what changed. Alot of the info out is pre-patch I beleave.

Well, pets have now been Normalized. Just like communists, they have now been forced to conform. This has made every pet class pretty much exactly the same. Cats will do the same damage, and have the same attack speed, no matter the model and skin. The exception is KB, which I believe has a skill that makes his attack speed somewhat faster. I have been told though, that his overall DPS is slightly lower. I can't verify this off-hand though.
Now, you can pretty much just pick the pet class you prefer, and choose the particular skin/model you like, and your pet will be just as good as anyone else's.
This has made pets more boring, but I believe the titwad Hunters that was too lazy to read up on pets needed this change, so they wouldn't have to actually go out and check things out before they tamed a pet. Thanks awfully Blizzard...

It depends really. Pets have been normalized in that sence that they all do the same amount of damage (family-wise) and no one (with the exception of KB) is faster than the other. Be it attack speed or run speed.
They havn't been normalized in the sence that they give certain abilities. The LBRS worg is still the only wolf pre-60 that gives Bite (Rank 8) and Furious Howl (Rank 4). There are many more just like that (like Kresh in WC, who is the lowest turtle that gives you Shell Shield (Rank 1). Ghamoo-ra being the second lowest and much easier attainable by alliance players).
Just browse Petopia for more of those examples. Other than that KB really is the only pet (that I know of) who differs in-family.

Well, got me a boar and tried out his charge move. Yup - I love it. It's all down hill from here, I have to admit once I got used using Petopia it IS very awesome & will answer all my major pet questions from here on out =)
