#1 Apr 05 2007 at 8:15 PM Rating: Decent
Hi guys im just wondering if at 70 can a well geared kitty do good enough DPS to be considered for runs? Can we ever get up to the level of mage/rogue/warlcok dps?

Even if you do, you still heal, and pretty well at that. You prolly wont be doing much else raiding whise unless they have to many healers or something.

I'm lvl 67 With a full set of BC blues, with 1600 AP self buffed and 32% crit with 46 points in feral, My crits are very tasty right now, and with that much crit you get combo points extremely quick and Omen of clarity is awsome for giving you even more burst since it helps me toss out another shred or mangle for free. I'm staying right up with well geared rogues and warriors of my lvl, and sometimes even surpassing them. Of course I will always carry a heal set with me, but my DPS, in cat is nothing to cough at. You have to keep gearing and play to your advantage, look for this high strength leathers, they usually get you more AP then some rogue gears since we get +2 AP for every STR. Also remember that crit rating adds more to crit per point than AGI, but AGI also give you 1 AP. Right now I'm trying to mow up my consortium for to exalted for that +25str +24agi neck pieces, thats almost 100 AP in cat form with HotW nearly 1 crit% if you don't have more crit than a rogue then you need to look at your gear because druids get alot more DPS options since STR is so much more meaningful to us. There's lots of nice +str + crit rating accessories like rings just from easy rep grinds. so keep your eyes open and you'll be a damage powerhouse. If you do DPS well and know when you can or can't do to survivability issues and prove yourself within your guild, and... there not hurting for healers, you can possibly get your chance at DPS in runs.

You can actually see the spec on the Armory site. :P

But anyway, to the OP, yes you can do good enough DPS to be brought to a run for that purpose. But at 70 you'll be expected to be smart enough to shift to Bear when needed to off-tank or off-heal if things go south.

Once people will start getting BC end-game Raid gear, then Cat will fall back a bit on the DPS charts, but you'll still be brought to Raids for your ability to do everything if you're in a smart guild.

Remember that Druid DPS is limited because of our lack of a aggro reset (Ala Rogues Vanish).

There's a screenie of a Druid with 5700 AP on the Druid Forums, btw, if anyone wants to go see. :)

Yeah he was fully Raid buffed with a bunch of trinkets activated (That +300 AP Trinket I can't remember the name of offhand, etc).

Pretty sick tho. :) He was leading the Kara dmg meters at the time of screenshot also.

    SPARTA!

Anyway, I'm typically a tank druid, and pretty dang good at it. We have a rogue who's simply extreme at dps, leaves everybody else in the dust. As far as we can tell this guy simply does everything right, and THEN has some hack to double the damage (tongue in cheek, I live with the guy and he's playing completely kosher).

On the Shade of Aran I went kitty since he's untankable. I was rivaling the rogue for damage. That's with half my cat gear still being my bear gear.

So yeah, a cat can bring the dps. Just be aware of options allowed by shifting since you're the druid role that can make the most of it. Add in utility like an ohcrap heal, emergency tank, or tranquility, don't just staple to a mob and ignore all else.

OP: It's not that we can't outdamage Rogues/Mages, yadda yadda. It's that we can't drop aggro when we get it. Spamming Cower burns energy and lowers our overall damage output.

That's what you need to remember when you're in kitty form dpsing.

I currently am raiding Karazhan as a feral.

If we have 2 warriors, then I go straight DPS and no-one in the raid comes close to my damage output. (Except during AOE which shouldn't count!!)

We use KLMThreat Meter and I can manage to never grab agro - sometimes I have to use cower every time it's up, but I still manage to top the DPS.

When we have only 1 warrior, I off tank or DPS, depending on what is needed for the pull. I do stay in my tanking gear though, so I can switch and pick up any crowd control that breaks early.

I have tanked Moroes & the horse in Attuman the Huntsman (we let the warrior tank the main guy because it is important to keep disarming him as often as possible).

There is never any talk of me healing (although I have 950 +heal healing gear) because I am always needed to DPS or OT. My guild rarely ever consider me a healer (unless the healers go down and I switch out and keep up the heals or battle rez someone). Overall - I am one of the most wanted members in our raids for my versatility - EXACTLY what a druid should be - BRAVO BLIZZARD!

I ran Scholomance tonight with a level 59 Rogue, 58 Warrior, 57 Priest and 68 Paladin. My Druid is 64.

It was fun beyond what I've experienced in a good while. I tanked, healed and dealt some sick damage on top of it. Sure, the Paladin was critting for 1100 on average, but I was critting from 200 on auto-attack to 2600 on Ferocious Bite, it was awesome.

At one point out Priest caught aggro (Rogue was a little dense, but hey) and died. I popped out of Cat form, threw a Rebirth, he popped back up at full health and mana and his first comment was "WTF just happened?" because I brought him back almost before he hit the ground.

I need to get a DPS feature for FuBar. I'm curious what my average DPS is like when I'm questing.
