Ok, tamed the big pink flamingo today on an alt, and am wonering (specifically aimed at Calabar) if anybody has noticed they seem to follow a little slower than they should, if I am running for too long, my pet auto- dismisses due to being too far out of range... kinda irritating realy.

i have never had that.... never tamed a strider either =P
but i dont think they are suppose to do that.
i mean, my wolf (before he had dash) easely ran next to my epic mount from blade's edge till shattrath.

Mazzranache is a starting area pet. Prior to the pet normalization, I would have actually expecting this. These days, I would be surprised to find that a newly-tamed Mazzranache would not keep up, though.

Tested it some more, and walked from Auberdine to the border of Ashenvale, and by the time I got to the border, Mazzranache had auto dismissed. It's not a problem as I can immidiatly call her, but it's kinda irritating. Don't know if its just a bug for me or what, or maybe it bugged out due to me dismissing her right after I tamed her (had no food DOH).

it sounds like she kept the chasing speed as it was before normalization...
i'd say send in a ticket, best option i can see.
and good luck with your flamingo =P

This is an interesting question. No, before the expansion I never had a problem with Sweetpea falling behind and vanishing, even with Cashara riding her epic goat. But the key words here are, “before the expansion.” A lot of strange pet bugs were added to the game along with the expansion.

The pet dance is a good example. I’ll send my pet in to attack. My pet and the mob will start an annoying dance together. They’ll jockey for position over and over and over again. This results in the target either being out of range or on top of me.

Another fun bug is being ignored by the mob. In this case my pet will do damage to a mob and I’ll start filling it with arrows and it keeps on walking away. This often results in the mob walking out of range and sometimes it will even walk into other mobs that don’t take kindly to my attack and commence heading in my direction to express their displeasure.

And I’ve also experienced the problem you are describing. I’ve been spending my time of late on the horde side. My level 45 blood elf hunter has one of the bright red cats from the BE starting lands as a companion. I obviously do not have an epic mount, but my level 40 bird is constantly outrunning Sunspark. As you said, it’s not a big deal but I do find it very annoying. I thought Blizzard had exterminated that particular bug a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I thought this was a Warp Stalker specific talent, but I noticed it with my dragonhawk as well, though due to the charge/stun of the boar, it seems to eliviate the problem (all the more reason to get a boar Smiley: tongue)

Hmmm... never had that problem yet, the most annoying thing I can think of is the mob running towards you/pet grabs aggro/computer registering the mob going to pet/your screen shows mob in your face but "out of range" bug

Ill have to see if they will even do anything about it, doubtfull though

had what calabar described a few times, annoying, but usually having 1 or 2 adds isnt a problem anyway =P

I've had that problem w/ several pets in The Barrens and on laggy days - or so it seemed to me.

Maz should be normalized. I think I still have a maz on one of my alt hunters. Maz used to be slow, as several noobie area pets were - an issue that carried over to the trained pet. But she should be normalized.

See if it's lag. Go to other zones. See if it happens late at night or another time. See if you have diagnostics running - not that this nec. lags the pet, but there's a teeny chance it might. I definitely have had my pets lag behind him in The Barrens and in Ashenvale recently.

LOL, with a dual core comp running 4g of memory, lag is not a problem, server ms never goes above 300 either. I have tried the running on several times of day, during peak and non-peak hours, same thing, ment to let a gm know last night, but friend came over and screwed me on that one.

Pluss its not likely Ill be going back to the barrens, some people there seem to be alts of 70's that I have had fun with on Sull, and they made the name correlation, and so my little hunter is not able to go anywere without being harrassed :P, at least this toon is on a PVE XD

(BTW sitting in a tree at Halaa killing people going to the wyvern racks before they can turn around and figure out wth is going on is the best times in the world :P)

My pre-BC pets keep up well. My new Wind Serpent auto dismisses all the time. So agree with Calabar, believe its an expansion thing.

Personally, like that the pet dismisses so easily, saves food and happiness. Miss the old days of putting pets on stay, mounting up, and riding off to dismiss them.

I can put a pet on stay and then run until it dismisses itself. But, even if I've put it on stay, as soon as I mount up and ride, it instantly follows me. I have to be running for it to work, for some reason. Maybe because it notices how unsubtle it is for me to be riding away. Perhaps my pets have fear of abandonment issues

o.o

That was a change made long ago. Hunters could control our pets while mounted. So some were using them to harass players, mount kite, do things Blizzard did not want us to do. So they made it that pets go into Auto Follow mode, graying out the pet commands, when the owner mounts up.

Blizzard isn't the best with our pets... alot of work on them, but they're getting better =)
If you haven't already, check the Petopia Pursuit Speed Article

Quote:
1.9 Mazzranache (was slow) 48.705 115.30%
1.9 Stonelash Flayer (was average) 48.855 115.00%
1.9 Twilight Runner (was fast) 48.87 114.90%

This information tells that Mazzranache actually is .30%faster that average, but it is probaly a testing issue. Then again... Petopia is accurate, so mabye it is a Blizz mistake. But really, a .30% difference? That shouldn't be considered anyway, it's so low.

Btw, I see you leveled up your Pork Sulldoon. What was that like? =P

The Pork... PAIN IN THE ASSS!!!!!

However, he is now usable in instances and holds aggro at 63 were a level 70 pet lost it!!!

Also priest is very gratefull to have been wailed on only to find a super dearnged boar sharging instantly in to save her

Also, the speed guide, faster would be nice, but my pet is slower wich sucks, I like always having my pet out, and it is a bit of a burdon to stop, summon pet, wait for pet to apear then attack

Hehe, I like having my out out too. But not for the reason you may think...
Sometimes when I summon my pet, I cannot see the pet bar. It takes around 10minutes or around 5 dismisses and resummons. As you can tell this causes problems. I often use my pet to save groupmates while traveling or when they're fighting a mob when they are low on health. This is bad when this glitch happens... and you can imaging how bad it is while soloing...

I have the Clutchmother pet. She never gets lagged behind me in the Outlands, but I noticed in WPL yesterday that she would continuously lag behind me and auto-dismiss. It was getting aggravating. I don't really know if it's lag or a bug or what.

My red kitty cat from the blood elf starting area is still doing the same thing. Vanyal is only level 50, so I don’t know if this will change once we reach Outland.

However:

Come the patch this won’t be an issue any longer. As soon as we mount our pets will auto dismiss. According to the patch notes they will no longer faithfully follow alongside us while we ride across the land. I personally feel this change sucks one more fun aspect from the game. But Blizzard seems to be taking the easy way out of dealing with pets and flying mounts.

Thats actually a very interesting thing, I was hoping they would implement the auto-dismiss.

I reported my Tallstrider issue last night to a GM and he said he forwarded it to a developer for future consideration. No I didnt put in a ticket just for that, I put inb a ticket cause the damn Deathblow to the Legion questline is still bugged out, and figured Id bring it up while he was on the line.

Apperently the GM went and reset the quest mobs, and we saw them back in there starting positions, but as soon as the add dude backed up and healed himself next to Socrather, it bugged out again, same place we found the mobs stuck last time. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
