So, I've been playing a shadow priest for some time now, but haven't ever gone up to VT due to my weird need to play a tweener heal/damage role post-BC. My question is, what kind of returns are you seeing with regards to mana? I'm thinking to myself that with the ~+500 damage that I have, and my MFs doing somewhere in the low 400s per tick with SW fully stacked, that if I were to have SW:P up already and just pumped out MFs that I might be able to get 4.5 MFs out before the 15 second DoT clears. So my fuzzy math is telling me that:

4.5 MF = 1200 damage*4.5 = 5400 damage
SW:P (4 ticks) = ~1600 damage

For a total of 7000 damage. 5% of that is 350 mana. Is that really it? That's not even a fireball for a mage. Is there a CD on VT, or can I just go slap-happy on it and throw it on every 15 seconds?

Enquiring minds want to know...

VT is a spell meant for 5-mans and raids, where it is absolutely incredible. In Black Morass, none of my other party members every need to drink except after bosses. IIRC from the math I did a while back, you should be running at *least* 125mana/5 to your entire party. That's insane on long fights.

Soloing it's not nearly as useful, but still really boosts your mana efficiency. VT->VE->Flay->MB->rank1scream->flay till dead, throwing in the Inner Focus/VT/SWP bug and Shadowfiend and I can usually go a full half an hour before drinking if the mobs have 5-6k health.

EDIT: You can and should throw it up every 15 second - make sure it's always on the primary target in a group. It's worth noting that, compared to you, my Flays are dealing more around 1600 damage in instances with the lock I'm usually with, a full 400 over yours, so that'll help a lot with the mana boost.
