Who's the bigger noob?Follow

#1 Apr 15 2007 at 6:45 PM Rating: Decent
So, I was running an instance the other night (Ulda I think...) and the hunter there was using a cat pet. About halfway through, he starts to get cranky (might have been past his bedtime) and he begins to point out tiny little things as if they are terrible. IE a paladin not healing himself. But that's besides the point.
When he actually said that his cat should be maintanking instead of a pair of paladins, his excuse being that cats are the best tanks other than boars, it got me to thinking. Last I checked, cats were high DPS pets that are best for soloing, or when you replace a rogue in the DPS slot. I'm pretty sure that bears, boars, and gorillas are the best tanks that hunters can get, not in that oder exactly. Or maybe I'm just a noob when it comes to hunters, but I don't think so.

Oh, and it might not matter, but the GUY was playing as a NE female.

Tell me whose butt would you rather be looking at if you're a hunter? A Male Dwarf or a female Night Elf? Cause I'm not going to lie, if I plan on playing a toon to 70 I want to make sure that they are pleasing to the eye because other wise that period of time to 70 is just going to feel worse then it already is.

I'd actually say birds or bats make the best tanking pets. But that's just me.

depends on what you see as tanking... Carrion birds and bats are super for multimob-tanking... SInce they have the screech to gather em.

As for single mob tanking you would prefer a bear or...

no...

Seriously...

Go tame a boar!

Actually I'd prefer a protection paladin/warrior or a feral druid to tank...

So, not to hijack the thread, but I have a question for the original poster. What makes you THE Mr. English?

I ask only because I know I'm Mr. English. It says so on my driver's license. :)

Well, the general point I was making was that the guy was kind of a moron, seeing as I was playing a druid and we had two paladins in the party, and he insisted on having his cat pet tank. He also mentioned that hunters were the best class endgame, and could beat any other, and a couple of other silly remarks, and didn't have a single character past level 64.

As for the people who say "I'd rather play a female char because it's easier on the eyes" honestly, it's a pile of pixels, and if you have such a big problem about how your guy looks, you can always play in first person. Or just wear a tabard, since those cover everything on your character. But I just think it's pointless for a guy to play a female character because they think they're hot or more appealing or less painful on the eyes. And if you want to play something that's easy on the eyes, you don't play a purple chick with handlebars for ears that Bliz obviously made to be prostitutes. You play something like a human or something. But that's just me, and that's just my opinion.
And seeing as dwarves don't really have much of a butt... or anything except a stump with arms, legs, and head attached.
And I think I should also mention the guy was wearing VERY crappy gear for a 42, and wasn't wearing any shoes, or rings, because of the obvious reason of trying to look hot. And then he got pissed off when I called him a her when he made no indication to being either gender.
Just never thought there was a point in that sort of thing, seeing as that if I wanted to see a chick, I'd go out and talk to one. Like I do every day.
-EDIT- But again, my opinion, you can have your COMPLETELY VALID OPINION as well.

But whatever, that's not what this thread is about. It's about the noob. That, and I was actually curious about how good a cat tank really could be. Since they have so little HP, and it was annoying to have to keep healing it and have him whine about it.

And Asylum, I'm THE Mr.English because that's what it says on MY driver's license.

I haven't really found turtles needed in any situations other than end-game cases where pets were required to off-tank something. But that was before the launch of the expansion.

My cat holds aggro just fine with Claw and Growl on autocast. Plus she does 500 damage crits with Bestial Wrath enabled at level 62.

Meow.

Oh? Well, that's a different matter entirely. Properly specced (talents and training points) a cat can make an excellent tank, making up for low hp by doing more damage (and shortening the fight). My cat tanked well enough for us to 3-man a Fel Reaver.

That doesn't make a cat a tank pet... but yes, a pet cat can tank. My own cat can tank better than the pally in our guild, but that's because he has no idea how to play his character (how do these people make it to 70?). A skilled paladin should be able to outtank any hunter pet... same for properly specced druids. Prot-warriors should have zero trouble.

Pets can tank better than poorly played classes of any kind. If a hunter is saying his pet should tank, that either means he's a fool, like you assume, or he's insulting you, a distinct possibility.
