k, well I just started WoW from FFXI, had both a Monk and Dark Knight at 75.

Just wanted to know, is a rogue, if you've ever played FFXI, in anyway similar to a Dark Knight? I know they have no mana like Dark Knights do, but I'm really wondering if the play style is similar.

I played THF and DRK back in my FFXI days.

The Rogue IDEA is basically the same as Dark Knights, but the playstyle is quite different. They both focus mainly on their own techniques, not really relying on other party members much and concentrating on dishing out big melee numbers.

Even though the playstyle IS different, if MNK and DRK were your two favorite FFXI jobs, then Rogue is definitely what I'd say start out with on WoW. Check out the Rogue sticky by Nooblestick at the top of the forum for a good starters view of a Rogue.

Hmm, I don't notice the Drk and Rogue being alike much. If anything, it's somewhat like Thf/nin.

Positioning is very important. Sure there's no SATA, but everything from stealth is pretty much attacking the back of your mob. With Dual weilding, it's a lot like thfs. Not to mention they have steal, which acts as a steal and mug at the same time (not a 5 minute cool down like ffxi, it's more like 10 seconds if that)

Rogue is a pretty tough job to get the feel for, it does take some time. It took me rogue toon after rogue toon, before I finally caught on. Also, only level Rogue if you're patient, stealth really makes you slow your game down, unlike warriors who charge in 1/2 a second at the mob, we stealth, distract, wait for other mobs to move, sap near by mob, etc.

I'm in a PvP server so lv 20+ you're basically fair game for higher levels to kill you. I walk around almost everywhere in stealth at 60% of my running speed.

I suggest not giving up, every even level you'll get more abilities in your bag of tricks that will help you in the surivial catagory. When you get poisons at 20, distract and vanish at 22 you'll be on easy street =P

I myself played FFXI and had DRK at 75 before I quit because I just didnt feel like spending the rest of my life doing HNM/Gods. Anyway, the closest thing in WoW to DRK would probably be (based on weapon types and the way damage is dealt) a Arms Warrior using two-handers. However, given that you played MNK and DRK, both very much DD's, you have the mentality of someone to do balls out damage. A combat swords rogue plays very much like a DRK/NIN when fighting EP stuff, just get in their face and beat the crap out of em.

Anyway, the answer to your question is in simplest terms no. But the mentality behind the classes is the same depending on your build, do as much damage as possible, and unlike FFXI, even a decent tank can keep you from pulling aggro when you do this (in most situations, as you know, **** happens that can ***** anything up).

I found WoW to be a much more enjoyable experience, since you can actually solo decently. In FFXI, unless you were BST you were required to be in a party to get anywhere XP wise.

For me, it was a lot of wasted time LFG.
