arena match strategy for 5vs5Follow

#1 Apr 16 2007 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
Im playing a 5vs5 arena team that arent very good. Im looking for some advice of my fellow spellwinders.
The players on the team are different each time, so I wont bother u with class details - except im a mage (frost 43 - arcane 17).

First.

Do we all need to focus dps at the same opponent target from the beginning of the match?

Second: Are healers the most important class to deal with right away?

Third. Any other good tips, everything is welcome ;)

FInally I have a question for a 2vs2 arena match. Here im doing much better. Im playing with another frost mage. But we do seem to have problems when we encounter paladin and random. How to deal with the healadin? Sheep, cs, nuke?

looking forward to some help ;)

IMHO 5 vs. 5 is a slaughter. i don't see any room for tactics except if you're very very good and you know your team-mates for a very long time.
vent / skype is a must.. and decide (by experience) what needs to go down first (healers / squishy dps etc).

It really does depend on your opponent's class matrix, and your own team's class matrix. There isn't a clear cut strategy that works on every single fight.

From what I've read, there is in general two main strategies that top teams use:

1. Focus fire one target

This is the strategy most often used and requires little to no explanation. As Angelback already pointed out, you usually go for the healer(s) or DPS first.

2. Man-to-Man / Woman-to-Woman

This one is trickier, requires a lot more coordination, and usually only works for heavy-dps team matrices. The basic idea is to have 2 of your DPS members fighting one-on-one with the opposing team's DPS, thus freeing up your healer, warrior, and 1 support dps (usually a rogue) to focus-fire their healers. Ideally, you'll have high dps/high survivability classes like Frost mage to hassle the opposing team's DPS and keep them occupied while a Paladin/Warrior/Rogue trio kills their healers. Once their healers are down, the trio can bring down their DPS easily since they have no heals. And if you're lucky, one or more of your man-to-man dps members will still be alive to help.

Note: This strategy sounds good in theory, but is much harder to execute effectively in practice.
