49 twink weapons questionFollow

#1 Apr 17 2007 at 3:14 PM Rating: Decent
Ok so I've read the stickies and stuff, but the specifics of this question require a little more input. I'm level 45 and I'm building a 49 twink. Money is not really a problem, I'm willing to work to get whatever I need. Most of the armor is pretty straightforward, but the weapons seem to bring up a bit of a dilemma.

I am assasination spec.

Gut ripper is 42-80 damage, 1.80 delay, (33.9 dps) and some random wound crap in green with no stats.

Shadowblade is 38-71 damage, 1.40 delay, (38.9 dps) with some COH shadow damage which I consider an insignificant factor in the choice, and no stats.

Sentinels Blade is 41-78 damage with a 1.70 delay, (35.0 dps) and +11 agility and +5 stamina. Only one of these can be worn at a time, which is the reason for my question.

First option: Gut ripper/Shadowblade - The gut ripper is the highest damage dagger (not DPS, Damage) for the 49 bracket. but it has a 33.9 DPS and gives no stats otherwise. I have this dagger. The Shadowblade is the highest DPS (over 38), but its a 1.40 delay, and has lower damage, so it would be for offhand only.

Second option: Gut Ripper/Sentinels Blade - Gut ripper for the same reason as above. Sentinels blade is around 35 dps, has fairly high damage, making it a decent candidate for mainhand. However, the main reason to use it over shadowblade would be the +11 agility and +5 stamina. Those are some pretty nifty stats, and offhand DPS doesnt seem to be a huge factor in overall DPS.

Third option: Sentinels Blade/Shadowblade - This is the highest DPS, and best overall stat option, but is the mainhand spike damage going to suffer too much?

Give me your input.

I'd clearly go for Shadow + Sent.

A kinda lot higher dps than the other combos and -1/-2 weapon dmg isn't gonna bother you much.

Do not listen to the poster above me. You want to put the highest possible top-end damage weapon in your MH for your ambushes/BS's, and have either of the other 2 for your OH. Shadowblade would be the best option, as with the 1.4 speed, you'll get more poison procs. Then again, if you can't find/afford it, the Sentinel's Blade will work just as well, b/c it will offset your DPS w/ the stats.

Take a look at my armory page, Salwrathis on Hakkar. The only piece of twink gear I'm missing is the Embrace of the Lycan out of ZF.

Very, very bad advice. It's not a two damage difference, it's 9. This is the equivalent of 75 attack power (as far as instant attacks are concerned). Top end is the single most important stat on a weapon, and on a dagger, it means even more. That 9 damage difference gets multiplied to 25 on a crit Backstab with nothing but Lethality and Opportunity.

Yup the most important thing is the higher dmg on the weapon, obviously i think you should get +15 agi on both weapons and if possible build more combat and get swords, not sure what level Krol blade it is but it is sweet. Otherwise if ure stuck in assasin (which is great), don't go for higher dps go for the highest possible dmg.

I got gut ripper in main hand with fiery enchant and scout's blade in offhand with +15 agi, I played around with few other blades but these two seem to be pretty balaced as a pairing and i fairly often see 1k evis's and 1-1.5k ambush's, used to use shadowblade in main hand but gut ripper has the higher dmg range.

Can't really see a downside as overall gives a good stats boost from the off hand, high main hand dmg and on the odd occasion you hit a crit, weap proc, fiery proc, and instant poison proc it kicks out some serious damage
