Siphon life in raids?Follow

I don't have any experience with raiding as a lock, but with my pally, I remember the lock group all had certain dots/debuffs they used. As a raiding lock, are you able to use siphon life, or do you not use it so it wont take up another debuff slot? I heard the debuff limit was increased, so I hope so. I like being dest spec, but I want something that I can use for raiding as well, so I had to sacrifice some things.

I didn't go 41 points into dest, cause the 41 pt talent is for pvp only for the most part. The problem is, you go through mana very quick, so I figured I need more health ( for pvp, and for life tapping) and a way to get health back (for pvp, efficient grinding and lifetapping for more SB mana in raids).

With this spec, I can grind great. I can't get rid of mana fast enough, of course, while grinding, I dont SB spam. I don't really need to though. Anyway, one of the biggest helps is having siphon life, as its another dot for soul siphon, and it's more health to convert into mana. My question again, is are locks able to use siphon life on raid bosses, or does the debuff limit prevent this? If so, I don't see myself being a burden on the healers, and with a pot or 2, I shouldn't need a mana battery.

Comments, on spec or my question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Siphon Life is excellent in a raid environment. It is a long-term dot (30 seconds), so it lasts through crap like the Maiden's repentance, the Shade's mass polymorph, etc., and refills your locks' health/mana pool, which helps with long fights so you don't lose DPS. Not quite as useful on trash pulls because, yes, as silly as it sounds, your locks can rip healing aggro.

Thanks for the input. It's much appreciated. So you are saying that for the most part, guilds don't have a problem with you using it on bosses to help with mana/DPS? I was afraid that it wasnt used because it was taking a debuff slot for another, more powerful dot. I remember before the BC, I would see a couple curse of dooms and COA's, plus the dot/debuffs from 1 shadowpriest.

That's because pre-BC there was a limit of 16 debuffs, whereas now there's a limit of 40. Go DoT-crazy! :D

And with the focus away from 40 man content you can go even more nuts. pre TBC a 40 man raid would have what? 4-6 locks(maybe more if you were going after GARR), so lets start, 5 curses(assume one dose not for giggles or for less locks), 5 Corruptions,so you are at 10 debuffs and we have not even started yet, remembering that a mage layes a chill effect, and Imp SB takes a debuff slot, now all it takes is one lock to use Syphon life, and you risk knocking Sunder armor off of the target, no sunder, no tankey aggro.

But as stated , This is NOT the case anymore.

capitol, you can knock off the sunders and the tank won't loose threat (especially back then when all they done was spam sunder, revenge and shield slam) it's just annoying for them and the melee dps

"Annoying" in the sense that your need to add a small amount of damage and healing costs every melee DPSer in the raid something like 25% damage output until it's restacked.

Luckily it's no longer an issue!
