Battlegrounds help.Follow

Yes, I'm sad to say that I'm just another noob who needs some help in battlegrounds.

I'm a level 49 destruction specced lock. I'm not twinked or anything, and my gear isn't the greatest, right now I'm wearing the dreamweave set I made and anything else I could find to boost my damage output and it work's very nicely, the real trouble I'm having is with surviving. Yesterday I played some bg's in WSG and the Basin and I kept getting obliterated by rogues and hunters constantly. Personally, I think some of the rogues were twinks because they could take me down before I could even get off a DC. And every hunter I came across had King Bangalash for a pet and that cat just ripped me to shreds even with a CoW on it. So I figured maybe I do better as an affliction warlock. So I re-specced and it did help quite a bit with my survivability, instant HoT was a life-saver, but I really missed the damage output I had with destruction, I didn't give up just yet though, I played a few more bg's as I wasn't getting smashed so bad, but every bg I was on the lower end of the damage and kills chart and that really bugged me for some reason. So I decided to re-spec back to destruction because I really missed Shadowburn, Conflagerate, and Backlash. No offense to affliction, I think it's a great spec, but just running around dotting/fearing anyone in range didn't really make me smile.

Anyway I'm pretty sure I either just had a really bad day yesterday, or my playstyle just isn't working. So If someone could give me a better strategy for bg's with a destruction warlock I would really appreciate it. And uhmm yeah my playstyle is much like a Seduce/Nuke strategy. Just seduce someone then launch a Soul Fire, Shadow bolt, or Immolate someone then try and finish up with a Conflagerate, or a Shadowburn. I know I'm just rambling now, but I do want to point out I try and stay with a group of people but it doesn't seem to help me much. Most of the time some rogue snuck up behind me and just whiped me out while my teammates went about their business, although I'm pretty sure it's hard to save someone when they die in a matter of seconds. So I'm might be forced to bring out the Felhunter, but then my Seduce/Nuke strategy is pretty much dead. Anyway I would really appreciate some help. And I also apologize for the misspelled words and my grammar I just wrote whatever came to mind and I don't really feel a burning desire to proof read a forum message.

Well, to be honest I think you are probably going to struggle a little bit as a Destro Warlock. It's a nice way to go, but primarily for PvE in my opinion. You say you are level 49, are you going to level more or stay at 49 for PvPing?

The trouble with Destro you have already found out - really nice damage, but very low survivability against certain classes. If you were going to level more I would suggest trying out a Demo build possibly around 51 and enjoy the extra survivability and damage that affords you.

You will either have to live with being a glass cannon, or change to a survival spec if you wish to last somewhat longer.

Thanks for the help. I plan to take my warlock to 70 or else I would probably be twinked right now. I'm just tanking a break from leveling right now for probably a few days and enjoying battlegrounds. I might try demonology when I have enough talent points to get a felguard. Which will probably be around the later 50's because I really need instant corruption, I have tried to play without it and It just doesn't feel right. I guess for right now I'll just suck it up and be the glass cannon though. I always enjoy hitting someone with a 2k Soulfire crit.

Demo is a good PvP build, and with all the buffs the tree has taken you won't be dissapointed.

And yes, instant corruption is something I can't live without either :)

Welcome to the Warlock's world. Doesn't matter your spec, skills, or gear, rogues and hunters are VERY hard to kill, they're our natural enemies. Rogues just stun lock you and 2k, 3k, 2k, 2k and you're dead before you can take any action. Hunters just silence shot you or send their pets to make almost impossible cast a powerful but slow spell. And they crit alot also, since rogues and hunters are basicaly Agi.
When you play BGs, just stay behind others, DoT the enemies and nuke them from far, far away. Seduce is good, but when in group PvP there'll always be someone who'll break it and you can't control the battle, so, I'd use felhunter. It helps detect hidden rogues and help alot against spell casters.
And more important. At BGs, who attacks first win. Take them down from behind, don't try a "fair" combat, because you'll be ganked by 2, 3, 4, 10 enemies.

Thanks for the input.

You're probably right well the felhunter. If I can DC a rogue away from me before it stunlocks me I'm pretty sure I can do okay. I've been watching some videos of destruction locks on youtube and it looks like the whole strategy is just nuking from far away so I'm going to give that a shot. Thanks for the help.

Don't Fret Violentfemmes. Level 49 ain't easy, Hunters & rogues are big damage classes, & good interrupters, but more than that, your Gear isn't doing you any favors.

What's your hitpoints? 3 or 4 thousand?

When you get around level 57 you can start wearing the new Burning crusade ' Outlander ' Gear, bought at the auction house ( bout 5 gold a piece ) .

I went from 3-4k Hitpoints, to 9k at Level 60 after buying it, & it really levelled the playing field... Also, when you get Shadowfury, Things will get much easier, & much funner. Seduce-Nuke is great, but in larger battle fields you'll find it's just too hectic to bother, instead, & I know you'll be skeptical, but trust me, Use your VOIDWALKER! & Sacrifice him when your attacked ( or when you expect to be )

That gives you another 2 thousand hitpoints! That's probably 60-70% of what you have base now, no?

Now your a DestroLock with the equivalent of 11k Hitpoints, & some fine damage output... Your still going to have trouble with rogues & hunters, thats natural, but the days of them killing you before your comrades Notice are Over! & You'll find yourself winning 1 on 1's a good deal of the time too.

I recently switched to Demonology out of curiousity, & the felguard is awesome. But I just don't feel as powerful as I did with destro, Demonology is better for 1 on 1 encounters in BG's, I won ( & More easily won ) almost all 1 on 1 encounters, but the huge utility & 'awe factor' of shadowfury is just... too great, for me. Its also the best 'flag-saver' in the game. I'll be switching back to Destruction soon.

Just wait till your 57 & you get a hold of that outlands gear. You can either go 9k hitpoints, or you can get 'invokers' & youll have about 33% crit rate, you'll feel, literally, like every other shot is a crit. It's bloody murder & its great.

Thanks a whole lot that really helped. Sadly my hp at lv 49 is a grand total of 1900!! So I figured that was a BIG reason why I went down so easy. Anyway I guess I'll just take my beatdown's for now and just wait until later on when I can get some better gear to really shine. I am a little skeptical of the voidwalker because I think felhunter will get the rogues off my back. I defenetly understand why you suggested it. The bubble is really awesome and it can come in handy fighting anything. So I'm going to try your advice and take ol' blue out to the battlegrounds a few times. Again thanks alot for the help.
