About to start kara questionFollow

Hey guys im wondering what u think about this. Ive collected good sets of both feral and healing gear(about 1950 ap in cat and 920 plus healing) Now my guild is about to start kara and I am having trouble deciding whether to stay feral and off heal with my heal gear or spec feral and dps until the priests need some help and then popping and healing.

Would you go with a hybird build or just spec in one tree heavily over the other?

Currently my guild has alot of dps caster and onl 2 priesy 1 holy pally to heal, any insight is appreciated

you can spec in anything and have a spot in a guild.

balance druids are useful in 4 mage/destro warlock parties for the 5% spell crit moonkin aura. effectively increases your guild's overall dps.

feral druids' leader of the pack serves the same purpose as the moonkin aura, but for rogues, hunters, dps warriors. imp leader of the pack takes a small load off the healers.

resto druids are useful for their tree of life aura, which increases healing taken. stick a tree of life druid into a warrior group. tree of life also lets you heal very very effectively. druid heals stack now, so HoTs are not wasted with multiple druids. having more healers is always good.

remember:
druid heals = biggest heals/HoTs
priest heals = most versatile heals (they can fill ANY 'healer' spot)
pally heals = most efficient heals (talking a holy specced pally)
shamans...not the greatest of healers.

OP, ask your guild what they'd rather have.

If you're actually off-tanking you're better off with a Feral build and just use your healing gear in fights that require more healers than tanks or DPSers.

If you wanna work as a DPS and Healer during encounters, you'll have to mix and match and go with a Hybrid build since you won't be able to change gear mid-fight. (Unless you run away to get out of combat, equip, and come back. But that's usually enough for a wipe. ;P)

I prefer the former because I just love Feral and don't mind healing. My very first Druid was an Hybrid. It was pre-BC so basically I'd go up to HotW and then go up to Nature's Swiftness. It was nice, but not as nice as being a Feral Tank/DPS currently is.

I think you wrote 3 paragraphs basically outlining what he already knows. If your guild is light on healers, go resto, if you need tanks, go feral.

Not exactly as simple as that, I'm afraid. The past week or so there was a post by Manza, or was it Mazra? O_o, about going from Resto to Feral because the guild needed tanks more than healers. When someone's not comfortable with a role they shouldn't be forced to do it. (Except for lame stuff like "I'm only comfortable with DPS")

Anyway, just to point out that playstyle may have a significant impact on what you do with your Druid.

It was me, Manza. My guild was in need of more tanks, and I was asked to respecc feral (after 70 levels of being a main healer, I had *never* been feral). It was my impression that resto druids didn't have a place in Kara as my guilds strat relies heavily on AoE healing. The post below contains *excellent* advice on tanking tactics, equipment, it's a complete package:

My Kara post

I made an attempt to tank, odds were not in my favor, as noted in the thread. Still, it just wasn't something I felt I'd have the skillset to do even under the best of conditions. I've spent 70 levels learning to anticipate damage taken, time HoT's, watch my aggro, healer stuff. I am a good healer. Tanking is completely different. I did not enjoy the mind game of being a tank. It stressed me out.

I made the decision to stay a healer. I'm very happy healing the 5-mans to get others keyed. I've been assisting two more feral druids, and two warriors who will be added into the rotations for the Kara runs. When we get more priests and shaman, I'll tank those 5-mans using the advice in the above thread. Thank you all, for the confidence and advice. Tanking is really over-whelming if you've never done it. I won't be a Kara tank, but I'll be a very respectable Arcatraz one. =)

Even the preparation for Kara has turned once very friendly guilds into vicious competitions for spots. Concepts like "Grade - A" teams and "Grade - B" teams are common in most. This is cause for a lot of hurt feelings. Since I knew I'd never be a grade - A tank (which requires a player skill I just wasn't interested in developing), I made the choice to stay out of the race.

As a rule, tanking in Kara is much easier than a lot of 5 mans (assuming your gear is adequate.

In Kara, mobs have to be CC'd or you wipe. You would almost never have to tank 2 mobs.

Compare this to Shattered Halls where there are pulls of SEVEN mobs!! This is one of the hardest fights to tank I've ever come across :)

Either way, get your tanking experience in the 5 mans's at your own pace. You may see it as stressful, but I know a rogue who leveled a priest and is exhausted after a 5 man because he gets so stressed out trying to heal and having the responsibility on him. It is all just what you are used to.

If you are helping guildies get keyed, Black Morass is a fantastic instance to tank because you only have to ever worry about one mob at a time - for a tank it is quite relaxing (not so for the healer or the DPS on the ads) :)
