Hi there, I am currently lv40 with my paladin and recently I respecced to Protection because I now have a sheild and a good one-hander (sword of omen).
Here is my current Protection build:

Should I continue to finish off my Protection tree or start on my Retribution tree on the next level? I want to continue solo levelling as fast as I can. I think I should start on the ret tree because looking at the Protection tree, the other talents are (imo) useless/notworthit for levelling

Anyway what I intend to do is to put the last point into One-handed-spec, then max out Sacred Duty, then move onto Ret. Is that reasonable?

Yeah, unless you want more staying power, you can go to Retro. I'm not a huge fan of Prot/Retro synergies but if that's the way you wanna go I suppose you can start investing in the Retro tree right after maxing Sacred Duty and 1H Spec.
