These changes affect all hunters, not just BM. BM gets more out of them, but they're not exclusive. Perhaps BM will be top DPS. At the moment, they are not. However, MM hunters are getting buffed as well by the hunter's mark improvement, which will help them more than anyone else. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that all three specs are viable and have nice synergy, I'm just saying that in *my experience* MM and SV hunters tend to out-dps BM.

My experience normally leans toward the opposite, with me or my BM guildmate edging out the other hunters (sometimes by a wider margin). But then, there are good and bad players of every spec.

Starting to think.. maybe we oughta say, "Alla hunters out-dps the rest."

With respect to the BM vs MM dps debate..

I've been marksmanship for a very long time and recently respecced to a very defensive spec of beast mastery. I havent tried buffing up, but last time I did with MM was on gruul and I was doing 620ish dps (top of the raid by FAR, my guild suck at dps >.>). I highly doubt beast mastery will be able to achieve that simply because the pet is so gimped there. However in a situation (pretty rare) where your pet is able to dps freely it'll probably come out on top. When you use TBW and rapid fire the damage is mind blowing. I'd go as far to say MM comes out on top with pots taken into account - even with pet scaling with stats. You cant argue with 2k auto shot crits, I havent even come close to a 2k crit with BM there's just a whole lot of them at 1***. Still, I'll see what happens next time I do a raid. ATM.. I'm going to sit on the fence and wait and see what I think :)

Sadly BM is regarded by many as a noob spec simply because of its notoriety as an easy spec to play. Sure it can be easy - my pet can solo level 70 mobs with ease, and even faster with me auto shotting. But pvp and raids are obviously much more challenging. Its also commonplace that poorly geared players use beast mastery and at 70 BM is sometimes laughed at, another reason why so few raiders spec into it.

It always amazes me how the views on BM shift so much.

Back in the day, it used to be considered a noob spec because everyone considered it weak (always). That's when I first specced into it, and I still played it effectively. Then the 1.7 changes came, and people considered it a noob spec because they thought it was overpowered. Still, a large number of people continued saying it was a weak spec.

Now that it has been proven to be a viable spec, more noobs are playing as BM (whereas it used to be a very rare spec), so we have even more divisive views, violently condemning BM as noob spec for being easy... then just as violently condemning it as an unfit spec.

In the end, when the comments always return to raiding, it furthers the idea that it is the player, not the spec, that makes a difference. It's more than just picking talents, it's also about speccing the pet and using its abilities effectively.

BM is more involved where raiding is concerned. It takes some focus to effectively use both the pet and your own attacks to their fullest. That's why many Beast Masters break down when it comes time to raid. They can't handle the duality.
