Why dont druids have a AOE.Follow

#1 Apr 22 2007 at 6:10 PM Rating: Default
This is my problem when garding a nod, flag or graveyard i always get attacked by a group of 5. Usually i just go for the healer but latly they just finish me before i get close enough to give the finishing blow. Im just saying it would be nice to have a mage AOE or a shammy like chain lightining just to soften up groups like that before i die. Do you think that would mack druids overpowered?
thx alot

We have hurricane which meh... has its uses. The problem is druids are pretty balanced now and have never really had any major form of AOE. While it would be nice to have some sort of AOE it gives us unneeded power which means blizzard would have to hit us with the nerf bat. Imo druids are so well defined in the jobs we do at this point in time the gift of AOE would make us overpowered.

I dont think and an instant AoE spell would be overpowered one bit. They dont even need to mae it spammable (have it on a 6 second CD like shammy shocks).

For example you know the times when your in Arathi and you see a large raid group about to capture base? Well you'd have to be pretty lucky to guess which one is trying to cap. And even if you did guess right some of the others may be trying to cap as well. So giving us an instant AoE would allow us to break that up long enough for teammates to come.

Now giving us a spammable instant AoE would help balance solo like crazy. In fact with high armor we might even get better at AoE grinding then mages. Thats probally one reason Blizz wont give it to us. It would upset game balance.

Now what I would really love is an AoE roots. In fact it would be awesome if they changed the effect of Nature's Grasp so it is an AoE root. Doing that would upgrade ER from a snare to a CC. Problem with that is roots lasts waaaaaaaaay to long for Blizz to be able to do that. But considering the fact the ER breaks before its supposed to anyways, they might as well minimize the maximum length of its effect.

All in all Blizz doesnt want to get anymore talk from mages that are alreadt b!tchin that warlocks are better spellcasters then they are -.- Giving them more competition would give Blizz a migrane(?)

Just find some excuse to put the spell in the resto category and you avoid overpowering moonkin.

we do have a spammable aoe. its called tab+moonfire.

sure, its not instant AND multi-target, but ive stopped an insane number of flag caps in AB by clever use of rank 1 moonfire and tab.

of all the classes in game, only two have instant cast spammable AoE that counts as a "hit" (blizzard and rain of fire/hellfire dont fit this criteria, as they dont "hit" per se). one of these methods (holy nova) is talented. the other is mage-only, arcane explosion.

druids have no need for an AoE, even a resto-only 6s cooldown AoE. hurricane is plenty.

An PBAoE would break the balance, IMO. Not because it would be too strong, not because it would be spammable. Just because we should not have EVERYTHING. We already have a LOT as Druids and giving us every single tool anyone would want would make us quite overpowered in the end.

If you really can't live without AoE, roll a Mage. Otherwise, learn to adapt your play style. Can't take 5 at once? Stealth and wait for reinforcements. Don't play Rambo-style blowing up tanks and helicopters with a knife, it just doesn't work that way.

Or you could choose engineering as a profession. Bombs are the best for PvP. The Big One has a large AOE and stuns for 8s I believe.

I was just thinking that when i saw this post! Mages have one, Warlocks have one (higher lvl fear), warriors have battle shout (dont yell at me if im wrong). it would be awsome :D

As a tank, I often use Barkskin+Hurricane to start AOE pulls, by doing this, I get all the agro. I have more health & armor even in caster than any of our mages/locks so I am easier to heal. This usually stops the mage/lock getting much agro (and 2k damage to each mob is pretty decent damage as well!).
