Well a balance druid is alot like an Ele shaman. They both play the same roles as spellcasters. Here are some key differences though.

Balance vs. Elemental: While shammies have shocks are burst damage owns theirs. Period point blank. Only problem is a shaman not specc-ed for spellcasting has better spelldamage then a druid not specc-ed for spellcasting.

Feral vs. Enhancement: Hehe feral shines big time. Better DPS better tanking hands down. Windfury used to let them keep up, but it got supposedly "nerfed" I believe it got fixed because it was something like they could cast a buff on their weapon then stack it with the same buff, but just a lower ranked one.

Restoration vs. Restoration: Oh yea Restoration wins all the way, lol. Well druids heals are definately more powerful then shamans. Shamans have the worst heals in the game. They even admit that one.

Well now your asking if druids can do all a shaman can but better why role a shaman? Heres why.

1: Shamans can do ALL of that in one form. They dont need to be in different forms/stances to take advantage of all their skills. Only thing they dont excell in is tanking. I mean an Enh. shammy can tank, but you certainly wont be looking for one.

2:Support. Tremendous support to the group. Like utter ridiculous support. Group buffs, anti-wipe, tons of useful abilities that help in minor situation. You name it, they got it.

3: Totems of course! These babies rule! You'll be loving the totem WF to boos the whole group DPS. Making instances go by faster and smoother. Only problem is that they cant move the totems. So you wont be getting the more mana "expensive" to often except on boss fights.

Actually the shammy windfury "fix" as it were was making it so that you could put your highest rank windfury on your main hand, and a lower rank on the off hand, and they both would be effected by the 3 second windfury cooldown that blizzard snuck in without telling anyone. I.E. windfury, despite having a "20% chance to occur" has less than that since it can only happen once every 3 seconds. This, of course, assumes a weapon faster than 3 seconds, and most every weapon is for an enhancement shammy, since when they crit they get flurry, which increases their attack speed.

But yeah...druids can tank, shamans really can't (mail armor at 40+ isn't enough to tank, even with a shield.)
