mana shield & power word: shieldFollow

Do mana shield and power word: shield stack? If both are on you, is the damage going through both of them at the same time, making a double-buff essentially meaningless?

I think they stack. Ice barrier and fire or frost ward stack, although sometimes the game is emminently retarded and it soaks up my ice barrier to ward off fire attacks... then I get hit with physical damage or something and my fire ward is still sticking around... and around... and dead.

But sometimes I works right and I'm like booya, 2500 more magic absorbtion against fire or frost casters. Usually perfect against bosses with mild AoE effects, it absorbs just enough to keep you alive when the MH is busy with the tank. It's nice because IB can be activated every 30 seconds and these bosses activate AoE more or less every 30 seconds, so booya to them.

On a side note, also fun is when a boss has a timed super ability or super AoE to ice block right at the last second. Worked really well against the final boss in Shadow Lab. He has this thing that deals like 4000 damage after 12 seconds. So at the last second I iceblock and oops, no damage. Then turn iceblock off and coldsnap it back into place for the second time he does that. Ice barrier helped me out the third time and viola, no death and no healing needed.

i don't remember a recent time that i've ever had ice barrier and fire/frost ward up, but i was under the impression that the first buff you put up was consumed first if it could absorb that kind of damage. i. e. put up wards first and then put up barrier.

i would imagine it's the same behavior with barrier and shield -- wouldn't really matter in that case because they both absorb everything. they do stack.

if i recall correctly the absorbtion mechanics go in the order of most powerful first. So if you have mana shield and ice barrier up, ice barrier will go first since it can absorb more damage. The reason for you fireward muck up is that its absorb value is low thus the ice barrier will get consumed first. Nothing wrong with that since a ward can only do so much.

its also better to use Line of sight to do that for Murmur as he is even more prone to using his aoe abilities in heroic mode. The final boss in Setthek hall also does the same thing but he is worse in my book because he blinks before he does it. The arcane explosions he throws out need to be avoided using line of sight because he does em a lot more often. Incidentally, you would have to learn to use line of sight since blizzard is changing ice-block to have a weaken-soul type debuff to prevent fast double iceblocks. I am quite certain that these 2 bosses like to use their aoes within a 30 second window (30 sec is the duration of the debuff)

anybody know which one of these is true?

Referencing back to the OP's question, It'd be better to stack things so the PW:Shield takes the damage first - it's prepaid in mana (by someone else :D) and lasts 30s to Mana Shield's minute. Then there's the 2x mana loss from mana shield damage taken. Oh, and iirc the priest shield blocks spell interrupts from damage until it's gone. I guess you could try to seamlessly put mana shield up when PW:S dies, but what fun is that?

<3 priests who throw PW:Shields on me in bgs
maybe I'll just go borrow one and experiment

I don't know about the most powerful spell going first (although it sounds right) however i know that it does not matter which buff you cast first.
