I'm a frost mage, lvl 70, +380 or so spell damage, upgrading my gear continuously.
I'm in all blues now, but they're still a mix of low end lvl 70 instances and quest rewards.
My frostbolt crits regularly, but it only crits 2000 or so. Some of the crits are like 1950 and some are as high as 2100, I might've even seen a 2200 when under the +5% damage auras in Outland. Various guildies of mine, most of them below level 70, have been talking about 3000 damage crits. A guildy warrior said he got 3000 crits and higher and a hunter said he got 2600 crits.
I know my spell damage is lowish, but I've also heard about lower level mages critting 2500 and stuff on this forum. What am I doing wrong?
I'm certainly not too worried about this. I stay very high on damage charts, in BGs top 5, in my group, either #1 or #2 depending on how much work marking and CCing I'm doing and I crit often enough for my liking. My crit is only 12.5%, but then with a moonkin its 17.5%, with molten armor its 20.5%, with the frostbolt boost its 25.5% and with 5 winter's chill effects its 35.5% against bosses, against mobs, the ice allows me to crit very often as well. So I think I get plenty of crit.
Still, its a matter of pride for a mage to stay at the top of damage for everything. I would think that mages should have the highest crit since they're all about burst damage and you guys have mentioned high crits before, so what's missing?
About spec: I am deep frost, 5 into piercing ice, but nothing in any other tree. I suppose I could be missing the arcane +crit damage talent, but is that it? I'm happy with my spec certainly, just concerned about crit.
