Which poison for MutilateFollow

#1 Apr 25 2007 at 6:50 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all,

Been ghosting around these forums for longer than I care to admit.

Re-specced recently to Mutilate build from Combat Daggers. Which poison combo is preferred and which attack order works best?

I have been using crippling / instant, CS-Mut-Gouge-wait-KS-Mut-Mut-Evis.

Would Deadly Poison and skipping the Gouge-wait help me in the long run?

Thanks in advance.

For solo pve poisons, go with whatever you like. Many go with instant on at least one weapon. For the second, there's a few options. Cripple is used a lot on pvp realms, especially in crowded areas. Deadly and wound both do damage and work with mut. Deadly breaks gouge/blind/sap, wound doesn't. In an ideal situation, deadly wins out but you never know when you'll make a bad pull, get a weird respawn in the middle of a fight, or have a random ally/horde attack you and wish you'd had access to your disorients or had cripple on. For instances/raiding, you'll either want deadly+instant if you don't think envenom can make up for the loss of poison dps or dual deadly if you do to minimize the time deadly isn't up. For pvp, it's normally cripple and either wound or mind-numbing for BGs and arenas.

For attack sequence, it's normally CS>Mut>wait for energy>KS>Mut>Mut>Evis. Since you're using opp mut for leveling, most rogues end up with the rest of the points in sub anyway. Without imp gouge, gouge wastes energy. If you do have imp gouge, you can use it if you want, but it isn't required to fill the gap btw the first mut and the KS.

Nothing to add, save to agree with what's been said. Avoid deadly if you're not a fan of Envenom, but at least give it a go - against stunlock-immune bosses and heavily armoured PvPers it's a nice thing to have to fall back on. The cost of course is a loss of gouge and blind for 95% of the time.

Myself, I'm either packing dual-wielded deadly if grinding for some nice envenoming or deadly on the MH and crippling on the OH. The Shiv ability makes a mutilate build feel good inside - the guaranteed application of off-hand poison is nice for those situations where you're not in stealth at the beginning of the fight. As such, I like an OH poison that actually applies as a debuff to the target, queuing up a nice mutilate.
