crit and armor questionsFollow

I'm a 70 feral, here's my armory page: http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gnomeregan&n=Zalophus

Two questions:

1) I've seen numerous references to crit values people are getting that are well above the best I'm getting. Cat is hitting about 250, bear about 650. I have a lot of +attack power gear. What should I be looking for to increase my crits?

2) I've seen a couple of references to people having 20k ap in bear form. I have the highest armor gear I've been able to find (even blues and purples don't seem to have as much armor as Manimal's cinch, ash tempered legards, and supple leather boots) and my bear has a little over 16.5k. Again, what should I be looking for to get 20k ap?

Thanks in advance,
Zalophus

1) I dunno. =/ I think the numbers you're talking about probably came from people fully buffed? Or maybe they had started getting Kaza gear? Can't tell.

2) I think that those numbers come from the pre-nerf on Bear armor. Or if it's still attainable it's probably through full raid buffs and whatnot.

20k AC is still attainable. Umberhowl's Collar, Verdant Gloves, Thoriumweave Cloak, armor ring/trinkets.. add those to your current gear and you'll go over 20k.

20k is easily attainable. The difficulty is in getting 20k while maintaining Crit Immunity (156 Def raiting with SotF). I had over 22k armor in all quest rewards & 5 man rewards before the armor nerf. The nerf took it down to about 20k (I was still missing quite a few upgrades though - like the Thoriumweave Cloak). By swapping in 2 pieces of the heavy clefthide set to get the DEF, my armor dropped to about 17k.

Once the buff to the Heavy Clefthoof goes in (and now I finally have my Earthwarden), I should be back up to a sweet, sweet 24k!

As far as your crit question, it is all a function of your AP and your talents. My shreds regularly crit for about 2k and my FB crit record is about 3.5k. I currently have 2300-2400 AP to get these figures. Without knowing your actual attack power, it is difficult to tell whether yours is high or low.

Agility, pure and simple. Assuming you stick to a single feral kit, rather than switch between bear/cat kit (I use Outfitter), you could certainly either upgrade to suitable rogue/feral blues - even a decent green set with a set bonus, and add agility enchants. A +35AG, while expensive, will do you very well added to the staff.

I know crit scales down from 60-70, but I have over 30% crit at 62, with only a few minor enchants - average crit about 2100-2400.

You're confusing AP with AC/Armour I assume?

Yes, so it seems; confusing with and confused by. Guess I need to research game mechanics some more. Can anyone recommend a good reference?

Read my combat log more carefully over the weekend. I'm getting 23-24k crit on 5-poing FB, but lots of 235 crits from mangle (cat). Guess I need to research game mechanics some more. Can anyone recommend a good reference?

And by 23-24k crits, I assume you mean 2.3-2.4k crits :)

Lol, what can I say. It was near the end of the workday and my brain was numb. Thanks for not asking what a 5-poing FB is.

To get 20k armor, you need a 2h weapon with armor on it. For crit, you need to have a second set of gear for PvP/dps, stocking up on agi and some crit can get you quite high. 30% is a good benchmark but you can push it higher~
