Tempestcro, was your first post a misspost? or have you posted the same in the Lock forum in the hope of starting yet another Lock vs Mage thread.

And does that mean your going to find out which one is best in other peoples opinions then take the time to level it to 70 and get the gear and attunements and then go "hey Ive got my BLANK and im going to be the top of the damage meters".

By then both classes would have been nerfed to a point where Shammy's and Druids do more damage.

Good Luck

All things being equal, Affliction Warlocks and Shadow Priests are the top 2 damagers right now, from what I hear, post Gruul.

However, in the upcoming patch, that's supposed to be nerfed a bit due to a nerf to Shadow Weaving.

Personally, I'd suggest that if you're trying to decide on which class to play, don't decide on who is top damage now, as that is liable to change at any time.

No I don't want to start another mage vs lock thread, and i didn't post anything on lock forum. I dont even want to go there couse i dont like locks.

I want to hear other peoples opinions not because I will play what you recommend, but because to hear what should i be expecting in the end game. I already started a mage because i think that class rules. I already have a 60 rogue and a 50+ shadow priest. Rogue did damn fine in MC and other 60 raids. But he became boring to play so i bought BC and switched to mage.

Thanks.

By the time you get to 70 and get geared, it will have changed at least three times ... so don't worry about it. Do the best you can for the class you are and be fine with that.

The big thing to remember is that who has the higest numbers all depends on the encounter.
Lets use some old instances for examples. Strath/Scholo, well with the shadow resist of the mobs in the place, and the meny opturnties for AoE a Mage will always come out on top. While in say ZG when fighting the realy big trolls(the fear monkies) the affliction lock will likely do better(since his dammage is still being done while he runs away). I do not think either is better, they are just diffrent.

As always, remember Damage is not the most important aspec of WoW, even for DD classes it is not all there is to be worried about. for example if a mage and a lock were on the same team, they would find a way so that overall the output of the both of them is better than either could do solo, thats when you have succeeded at either class.

All else equal, in straight dps, a Warlock should win. But each fight caters to different aspects of play, and sometimes the Shadow priests are doing something else, and the Locks are off doing something too. This is when Mage gets top spot.

It isn't a huge difference though. A Lock will beat a Mage by just a small margin, so play what you like.

on a straight dps fight like gruul, we nearly always have a fire mage in first spot, with a shadow priest close behind and then a small gap after which lock, mage. the differences among the similarly geared players are small and also depend on their form. rl distractions and lag also have an effect on the damage meters.

there are few straight dps fights, normally there is more going on. for example on magtheridon, locks lose damage because they have to banish/fear adds.

so you can see, neither mages nor locks are there just for the damage. they do crowd control and decursing which eats into their max dps but is invaluable to the raid.

both do top damage.
