Multi-mob aggro keeping w/o Swipe?Follow

#1 Apr 30 2007 at 11:54 AM Rating: Decent
Quick question before this long day at work wraps up.

I was off tanking for large pulls in SM last night. Our party was: Warrior, Pally (healer... by his choice), Me, and two mages. Well we had sheepers and for large pulls I'd change into Bear form and do my normal fighting with the Warrior for mobs attention.

Well the mages would sheep 1 or 2. I demo shout, then well swipe. Yeah, Swipe will wake up sheeped mobs. When I did not Swipe, Demo Shout would not hold the hate. I can Maul 1 mob, switch targets Maul the other, and try to keep hate that way.

Any suggestions on how to multi aggro manage w/o constantly using swipe? I got the 10 min cooldown ability, but that's 10 mins.

Oh yeah and like 5 bars until Dire form, Stealth#2, and my mount! Boo Yaa.

Whether it was itensional by blizzard or not, but tranquility is very high agro. It might be a healing move, but it is very affective and getting lots of mobs onto you. I'm geusing that this was the 10min cooldown move you mentioned though. Still i find it very effective

If you're swiping the sheep then the group is not pulling the mobs back far enough. If there's not room to pull back farther I switch targets and growl a lot. It's embarassing to lose a mage because you swiped his sheep, I've done it myself.

The tranquility effect is interesting, but of course you'd have to shift out of bear to do it, and since you probably have at least one elite mob glued to you....not so good. Dead druids don't hold much aggro.

I've had this problem before and usually there are only 2 mobs left to tank. 1 for you and 1 for the tank. If there are more than 4 mobs that CAN (but isn't always) be a bit of a problem.

Now what I DO IS I allow the mages to sheep and steal the aggro from them. this gives you time to charge the last 1-2 mobs that are't sheeped, and getting you some distance from the sheep.

Failing that walk backwards while you are attacking the 1-2 mobs that are attacking you. This gives you less attacks for a little bit, but you pull them away from the sheep.

I hope this helps and doesn't sound like I'm berating you. These are just what I've done and what works for me.

In raids & heroics, sheep pulling is a bad idea, as even 1 mob getting to the mage without being picked up (might dodge or resist a taunt) will mean the mage gets 1 shotted.

Best thing is to make sure the mages are quick after you pull, then make sure you back up and pull the remaining mobs away from the sheep. I often off-tank with a warrior in shattered halls (some 7 pulls!). We stand together and I tab-swipe-tab-swipe while he builds agro on the main target.

The main thing is to make sure the mage (and the rest of the party) know that you need to swipe to keep agro & keep them alive. Then the mage will be quicker sheeping, and the DPS/heals can wait a fraction longer while you pull the mobs away from the CC and start swiping.

Thanks for the advice guys! I just got Dire form last night, so I'm all set for SM, and some tanking with the big dogs. I will do the back up move, I'll have to get the Warrior to do the same (stomp wakes them too lol), so I'm sure he'll agree.
