Ok so, i have a lvl 46 Hunter and a 44 Tank. Now, i have been leveling my tank as of late since my friends more or less asked me too. They are both High DPS classes and already at 70, and they keep saying that Hunters beyond 60 just aren't as good. Things like "they're less protected", and "die easier" and even "damage doesn't keep up with all the other classes new buffs."
Now, personally, this comes at me like it's completely false. It really just seems that they want me to level up my tank (even though we already have a 70 warrior in the guild) and ignore my Hunter.
Is there any truth to this? Can we still keep up damage wise in 10 seconds like other classes? I'm willing to bet we can but i wanted to hear it from the pros.

Well, Hunter's aren't a pure DPS class. We are a support/utility class. We won't do the single target DPS of a Rogue, nor will we be doing the insane AoE damage of a Mage. Warlocks will outdps us as well, on Damage over Time.

We, however, have good DPS (not to be confused with insane DPS) with squishie protection (pets) and crowd control (traps) and the best pulling in the game (traps, misdirection, feign death).

All this combined, makes Hunters a powerful class to have in an instance. And our protection is a matter of choice. We can sacrifice some longterm damage in favor of stam, or get alot of AP/Crit and int instead for alot of damage, for a long time.

Hunters are fine.

Ugggg.....

Hunter can and do out DPS other classes. Keep forgeting to get a SS from instances to prove that one.

I am usually 5-10% more DPS than anybody in instances, except against exceptionally geared destruction locks. Anybody that is equally geared as me, I out DPS, it might not be much, but it is still out DPS'ing, and that is when I am parsing my pets damage seperate from my own, Az was ******** about that so I did seperate and still wooped his *** :P

Tanks are in much higher demand than hunters right now. Hunters are nice in pvp, though war/pally combos are dominating arenas ATM. This might change after the patch, but my advice would be to keep with whichever one you enjoy playing more. If you dont play like a huntard, you will get into groups, and do decent DPS.

Trust your instincts, they are right on the money.

Hunters, less protected? We've got a Pet tanking for us, so that our mail armor hardly ever gets scratched. Not to mention, hehe, the Warriors. :)
Die easier? We fire from a loooong way away, so any threat is at least a few seconds away and can be reacted to easily. Incoming mob? Freezing Trap. Group wipe? Feign Death.
Damage doesn't keep up? Mages, Rogues, and Warlocks just wish they could deal our sustained DPS. We might be beaten by any of those classes in burst damage, but at the end of the raid see who is at the top of the damage meter. It's a Hunter. This is said to not scale to the highest level content. I'm not there yet (currently in Kara, for a point of reference). I might never get there, and if I do it might be corrected while I'm on the way. I suspect 90% of players won't get there. I wouldn't let
this get in the way of your enjoyment of your Hunter.
