I have a Hordie hunter at level 18 and I decided to grab a level 9 Owl pet from Teldreassil. I spent last night making the suicide run and getting Screech 1 from Westfall, so the owl is good to go.

This is a solo toon, which is why I wanted Screech (easier time using multi on groups). On paper Carrion Birds actually look a little better, but I like the appearance of the Owl more so...meh, there you go. Anyhoo....assuming I use the owl exclusively for leveling, and that I play every day for 1-3 hours (my rested XP won't skew too badly) what level will my hunter be, roughly, when the owl catches up? I do like to do quests, so straight xp grind won't be happening.

Thanks....and I know you guys can't really be exact on the estimate. I just wanted to know if it was going to be Level 20 or like level 25 (shudder).

Congrats on the owl, first of all. They're a wonderful pet ;)

I'm not going to try to calculate the maths involved in your leveling; with your level, your pets level, the exp received per mob killed in so many hours, etc. So this will be a rough idea.

As you possibly know, pets don't receive any of your quest exp for turning things in (or discovering new areas). They get their points from the battles you get them involved in. With that, and the fact that you prefer to quest rather than grind, in mind - I'd suggest that maybe you could try focusing on quests that actually require you to go out and kill mobs for your reward.

On top of that, a pet's exp bar doesn't take as much work as its owner's to fill up. So, after a few solid hours of work, your pet could gain some nice levels fairly quickly. If you make sure that your pet is getting exp and that you're not just doing things that only give you exp, then it shouldn't take you seven levels to get them close to you. It may be after level 20 but, hopefully, not a long stretch past that. :)

Also consider that pets don't always have to be level with yourself. A pet that is a couple of levels below you (provided it has skill ranks that are appropriate for its level) shouldn't have too many problems.

Just go out there and enjoy your new owl... Preferably while getting yourselves soaked in your enemy's blood.
