Arcane Shot, Explosive Shot, Serpent Sting, Chimera Shot, Black Arrow, Explosive Trap (and all other damaging traps).
It makes sense, really. Smiley: tongue

Okay follow up question then...

Where does it make sense to put the hunters on the deathwhisper adds? Or can they can they handle either the melee or the casters well?

My hunter is currently at lvl 58. My question is whether it is acceptable to have the pet on defensive when running instances? When the pet is on defensive, it makes it a lot easier to burn down trash when I am using Volley. If I put it on passive, my dps suffers; however, I have received a complaint once when it was on defensive although it did not aggro anything. Usually when it is on defensive, everything goes smoothly. Thanks for any advice.

Defensive is perfectly acceptable and works in 99/100 cases.
Only exceptions are when you're attacking something you don't want your pet to be in melee of.

Hi: Noob here. I've been trying to read FAQs and such, but my literacy is low having never been near the level cap before, and having been gone for 3 years.

I'm only lvl 73 right now, but I'm working toward 80. Once I get to 80, I see people say that one should "grind heroics". Could someone explain what this means? I know some instances have heroic modes, but is there a step even before that?

I've just been happily level grinding and I'm wearing the kind of stuff you get from quests, so whatever the ground floor is, let me know what you'd do :)

Right now most people are very overgeared, so heroics are fast and easy. Points from heroics will let you buy gear that is just below the best raid gear, so do a few heroics to get ready for cata. I also understand right now that the points from heroics will buy you some decent blue gear in cataclysm, so it's worth just building up points.

Grinding heroics just means do a lot of them. Using the LFD tool will make this trivial.

What do you think of BM in Cata dungeons? In my leveling I've been seeing some crazy Kill commands Crit's around 6-10k,and i'm only in a mix of Cata blue and greens. When I get some decent gear that should go way up,or will survival spec still be better overall?

Check femaledwarf.com Kill Command might not be worth it for you.
It only gives me about 35 dps to use it at ilevel329.

And for me KC crits for up to 14k, but arcane for 10.5k and that costs half the focus and Cobra for about 8k.

Edit: as for what spec is better, I think it's BM right now and it certainly is BM for leveling for the rest check out femaledwarf and play with it a bit.

What do you think about running Cata Instances blind, without any knowledge of the bosses? I usually run them with my guild which everyone is on vent,so It's easy to tell people things they need to know,if they don't exactly know the bosses, but if people pug for the instances which people aren't on vent,is it a good idea to research the instance first,as it'd be easy on the group,if things don't have to be explained beforehand, but if people want to come into the dungeon blind,so as to better experience the content in said dungeom,so to speak.

The mechanics are still simple so for the most part you can just wing it and see what happens.

With LFG tool it is so much easier to get into dungeons, you don't have to deal with lfg 2m VP pst achievement, you simply queue and go. With the new expansion if I don't know a boss when we get there I say something. For the most part it's pretty easy to see what's going on. If there is a beam hitting you in the face dealing damage, get out, if there is something ugly on the floor, move. it's usually pretty easy to tell.

Ok need a little help here. I'm new to wow and just got to level thirty lastnight and unlocked my dual spec. I had forgotten to update purchased abilities etc and hadn't spent any points in my talent trees. Pretty stupid move on my part so I go to update all my missing spells and attach my points.

I get into the next dungeon pug and low and behold... Aimed shot had disappeared off my loadout. I had gotten it right at level ten earlier this week and have been using it right up until lastnight. Did hunters mark on the sub boss in cathedral hit my poison shot and went to go punch aimed shot to see what dmg I'd get and my character through her hands into the air......

I didn't delete it off my bar either. I may have accidentally stuck hunters mark over the top of it but does that delete it completely? I check with the hunter trainer for purchased abilities already learned and it doesn't even show up that I had gotten it originally.

The only other thing I can attribute this to is maybe having more skills in my second talent tree erases
It? If I respec will I get it back or do I travel to the starting zone and purchase it again?

Any help is appreciated since this is the help me thread :)

When you added the second spec, did you accidently switch out of Marksmanship? Aimed shot is the MM class-defining talent, and as such it isn't trained, and isn't available to the other two specs.

So I jut read someplace else in these forums that when you have your wolf pet out it give a bonus to critical attacks. Does that apply to the whole party or group like in pug dungeon crawling? If so where can I find a list of buffs pets give to group?

Thanks in advance. Very new to wow and am enjoying it thoroughly.

The skill is called "Furious Howl" and applies to the whole group.

A list of skills can be found here, along with absolutely everything else you might want to know about hunter pets: http://www.wow-petopia.com/talents/skills.html

Petopia used to be a real good site for basically anything pet-related (haven't gone there much since Cata dropped, but I doubt if it's changed all that much). Particularly finding and taming rare/unique pets, but a lot of more general pet knowledge. Invaluable when a lot of that information was less generally available.
