Life is pretty good. Work is keeping me busy, but I still find time to be a total geek... which I suppose isn't that hard when my work consists of at least 50% science and tech.

My brother just got married, and he and his wife are probably gonna pop out kids right away. Side note: that means I'm now the only single of the 4 kids. Permanent 7th wheel.

My daughter is now back home living with us again. With my granddaughter (2yo), who jabbers incessantly and insists on watching youtube vids of ducklings or Peppa Pig with me. My life is hell and I'm loving it!.
Also, I finally read all of the Star Wars books. I still haven't seen the last three movies and I don't seem to care to. And I found this blog post a while back about the Machete Order which is fascinating and I love it. (Ha! I just googled it for the url and I see Time did an article on it back in April.) I broke down and got myself a Kindle and my reading has increased exponentially, back to what it was 20 years ago before I got sick of reading all day for work and found no pleasure in reading for fun any longer.
I also re-read the LotR trilogy again, for the fifth or sixth time. I've lost count but that's over the course of 40 years so it's not that crazy. A couple of biographies (Supreme Court justices, Patton) and a book about the Battle of Midway. Now I'm hunting for something to read, and thinking seriously about re-reading some great books, like Catch-22 or Shogun maybe. I do like to re-read books that I like. Open to suggestions though.

I'm not much of a baby guy. I don't mind them, but I'm not enthralled by their chubby little faces. I know I'm a bit of Negative Nancy, but do a CBA on having a kid, and you'll see that "but they're so cute" doesn't carry a whole lot of weight. I guess I need to find that one thing that completely tips the scale. What was it for you guys? What was it that made you look at all the sacrifices you'd make - forever - and go "Psh, worth it"?

Probably the knowledge that I had like 10% in making it had a lot to do with it. Maybe a biologically ingrained reaction from our ancestry to assure the survival of our species and personal clans/lineages.

The Mets were destined to win for two reasons. The Chicago Cubs have diehard fans. The Cubbies are cursed, they never get to the World Series, but their fans are always there for them. They had to lose, it wouldn't be a great story otherwise.
The Mets, on the other hand, a team I have followed since childhood because my dad was an old Brooklyn Dodgers fan, and all old Dodgers fans became Mets fans after The Great Betrayal, always win in July and August, and crash mightily at the end of September. They had to win, it wouldn't be a great set-up for another great disappointment otherwise.

The Royals and Blue Jays aren't exactly winning clubhouses either, maybe not to the degree the Mets and Cubs are. This year is a veritable parade of underdogs. I'm letting myself get hyped and possibly crushed by reality, thank you very much. Also, I get to go to bars for the games in a deal my wife thought she had the upperhand in.

I did enjoy the new SW trailer. It was a bit TOO skimpy with the details, but I think they struck a good tone with the nostalgia. It was there, but it wasn't coasting on it.

I like my trailers to be lacking details. Just show me the actors and their costumes, and a little of the premise and I'm a happy camper. Really, the new trend for horror movies to show what appears to be the exact same audience reacting to the movie got under my skin real quick.
