Weird PS2 disconnections from FFXI...Follow

Okay, I can log into FFXI just fine, and I can play the game for about 2-3 minutes before I stop sending and I disconnect. the error code is: "FFXI-4001 No response from server. Connection timed out. Press OK to shut down." This has been an ongoing problem since August 2nd's maintenance (Shiva). Sometimes i can play for about 4-7 hours, and sometimes it does this. Ever since that maintenance, this game hates me -.-

Also after getting DCed, at the FFXI startup screen it says, "FFXI-3113 Protocol Timeout error."

I also get "FFXI- 4001 error" and "POL-0512" sometimes >.<

One more thing is that all my other online games work, so I'm guessing there might be server problems? I don't know...

<Help me out!> <Please> ; ;

Give people a little time first. Not every tech question can be answered within 24 hours. Be patient.

Do you have the PS2 connected directly to the net or through a router?

Through a router, but I believe I 'fixed' the problem.

See, my family is always using the internet, so my dad does work on his computer and he gets top priority for bandwidth and while he despises my game playing, I get lowest priority for bandwidth. So, I can't play when my dad is on his computer so I'll just have to learn how to play with the Japanese players. ^^

I was getting disconnected as much as once an hour when I had my PS2 connected in line with my router a WGR614, but only have been DC’d once when straight into my RR cable modem. Yes I would get the dreaded 4001 error. It would DC when I zoned, in the middle of fights, (most often), at the Jeuno AH, or even just transversing across Le Theine or some other isolated area. After searching low and high I found this suggestion about setting the Connection Check in the PS2’s Network Settings to “enabled.” It worked, I have not DC’d since. You can also check into setting your router configure to allow packets to pass through these ports:

Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group.
TCP 25.80.110.443 or 50000 - 65535
UDP 50000 - 65535

Port numbers that may be used by terminals such as the PlayStation(R)2.
TCP 1024 - 65535
UDP 50000 – 65535

You may also be able to set your router to give priority to the PS2.
