My friend hasn't been able to log into his main FFXI character since Tuesday. He says that when he logs in, he sees his character on the screen, and then both FFXI crashes and then the PlayOnline Viewer disappear, leaving him on the desktop.
He says that he's been working with Square's tech support since every day since the problem started, but they haven't been able to help him recover his character.
Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone know what might solve this issue? I've got a feeling that this is a problem on the server end, but I'd love to hear any possible suggestions.

yeah sounds like a corrupted zone file to me. there are a couple ways to check. make a new character and try to load it in the zone, or have him go to another computer with ffxi and try logging his character in that way. ifi ti is corrupted, deleting the zone and repatching should do the trick.
