Playing FFXI on both PS2 and PCFollow

I will be going on a business trip and wanted to bring FFXI with me. I did not want to lug all my PS2 crap with me when I will be bringing a laptop anyway.

Is there a way, when I buy the PC version, to play with my current character on my laptop? (I know everything but the macros and settings are on the servers from a previous post)

Do I just need to buy the game, and use my current POL id and password?

Any other suggestions I am missing?
