PS2 issues with Linksys routerFollow

#1 Aug 26 2004 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry to post in here, I'm new to the forums and don't know which one to post in. Hope this doesn't get me marked down.

I'm having some trouble connecting to FFXI
-I use the PS2 version
-I have a Linksys 802.11b wireless router with 4 lan ports for wired access.
-I use SBC DSL service.

Problem:
I have my 2 computers networked in correctly and am trying to add my PS2 to the network to play FFXI. I'm not really a computer buff... I have the modem and router connected, but pluging another enternet cable from the router to the back of my PS2 network adapter yields 1 of 2 messages, either it doesn't recognize my eternet cable as being pluged in (which it always is) or that I just am unable to connect.

I have played using another DSL service and have an active account, any posibable ideas would be greatly apprecieated as my garden is probably now withering ^_^ thanks!

first off, make sure the os2 is off when you plug the cable into the router, then turn it on. that allows the router to recognize the ps2.

Second, depending on the router model number, there may be a firmware upgrade to enable ps2. Check www.linksys.com
(your model number will probably be something like wr####)

third, try a different network cable. those things can go bad, especially if they are moved alot. might be worth a shot

if it still doesn't work, you may need to go into the router and pen the ports for the game manually

and yup, this is the correct forum for this!

Ok, 1st try- unhooked PS2 from router and powered down the PS2, connected PS2, turned on PS2, tried to connect and I got an error
POL-1038 Ethernet Cable not connected. Please check cables, networking devices, and network settings.

2nd try, went to linksys page, upgraded firmware (it did need an upgrade) also repeated option 1. same error occured.

3rd try, replaced cable with another cable. It worked! thank you so much ^_^

I would rate up but it appears you are at maximum ^_^
