Geforce 4 MX FFXI problems

Hi,

i just bought my copy of final fantasy XI plus the Rise of Zilart expansion. Installation and registration went off without a hitch. However after creating the character, selecting name, country, handle etc.. when the game loads and starts, all i hear is the music, see the mouse cursor and a black screen. I don't think the computer crashed as i can alt+tab to quite the game. I have updated my video card drivers from nvidia. Is there any way to fix this problem?

My system specs are,

Proccessor : Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz
Graphics cards : 64MB Geforce 4 MX 420
Amount of Ram : 512MB ram
Operating system : Windows XP professional
Frequency of problem : every time

Haven't had to chance to play.. help is much appreciated

yes i think i'm using Norton Internet security 2004. I did try to disable it and run the game, however the same problem still occurs. I have also tried to run the game with the lowest settings with all effects offMy computer is a dell, i have also upgraded my drivers to the newest available drivers, after that did not work, i just downloaded the latest forceware drivers from nvidia instead.

.. but with no luck :(.

check and see if your video card is sharing an IRQ with your sound card.

Also, with a rig like that, you really don't want a geforce 420 in there. That is like running a turbosupercharged engine witha model t carburator on top.
